I went to swift and signed a contract for the school saying I'd either pay it off in monthly payments if I didn't work for them after or if I DID work for them I'd get it paid off in the weird crazy way they do it (charge you for the school for 12 months while at the same time reimbursing you for the school for 24 months).
Essentially, swift school tuition is a 0% interest loan for the school amount with two different repayment structures. When I did it, option 1 (not working for them) was $300 a month repayment until full. And option 2 (working for them) was a $150 a week payment for 12 months with a $75 a week reimbursement for 24 months.
Then as soon as I had my license, I went to Schneider. And with their school repayment program, they're making the monthly payments for the swift school.
Now if I quit Schneider, I'd still owe the remaining balance on the loan. So, since it's a 0% interest loan, the balance is dropping by $300 for every month I work at Schneider.
Total amount for my school there was $2900. Regular balance of their school is $3900 but I got $1k off for being in the reserve and I also didn't take them up on the $500 hotel. So, I'll have the entire balance paid off if I stay with Sni for 10 months.
However, if I quit and go to a different company with a school repayment program, they'd pick it up there.
Anyway, it's slightly complicated, but not really at all. Essentially boils down to I didn't pay swift anything and owed them the amount and my current company is making the payments since they have that program. So, it's free. And I make more money at sni. And it's not swift so I'm not going to get stuck under a low bridge. Overall, a fairly decent way to get a free CDL in my opinion.
Edit: I also just threw an empty water bottle from the sleeper into a trash bag that's in front of my passenger seat and made it. Feeling like I should go try out for the NBA.

Thought someone should know...
C.R England or KLLM

I started with Prime a year ago. Good training program, but you have to be very proactive about finding the RIGHT TRAINER! Once you finish the week in the classroom, they'll take you to the training pad, where you'll try to hook up with an available trainer. This is your chance to interview them and find the right fit. I highly recommend Prime, but every experience is different. It's up to YOU to "do your homework" and research to prepare yourself for the trucking lifestyle. Done right, it's a paid vacation. Done wrong, it's your worst nightmare.

All they would need to do then is cut a hole in the sleeper floor and they could possibly give the New Canadians a run for the money.
Wow...and some of you are worried about the truck stop bath towels. Imagine having to share sleeper holes.ghjjf Thanks this. -
I'm trying to figure out what kind of people , other than desperate, would ever agree to being piled into a truck. Not that I'd ever consider working for a company like CR England but if I did I'd draw the line at them throwing another dude in the truck with me let alone 3 dudes.TripleSix Thanks this.
