I am planning on attending England's school in Burns Harbor, IN in a couple weeks. I am not finding very much info to make me feel warm and fuzzy about this choice. There are some circumstances that make my situation unique;1) I live 6 miles from the facility and 2) I need to make a paycheck.( I also want to drive. My daughter is grown and I've no reason to get home regular)

I would really appreciate an objective opinion about what I am about to do. This company may very well be the worst, but they are in my back yard and they will cover the tuition if I drive for them for 6 months. Am I not being realistic by thinking I can find another gig after my obligations are met? Are they that bad that I should consider a different school, regardless of location? What should I be on the lookout for with this company specifically?

I appreciate any advice from you guys that are on the other side of this already. I need your hindsight.

    Thanks

Read the forums, you will see they are a company to steer clear of.(IMO)

I met one of their drivers at the C&S warehouse in Maudlin SC,he had been delayed for over 24 hours and was getinng paid nothing.
Also he was making $400/week take home..now granted he said he was on a dedicated route(so maybe that limited him a tad),still it's way too low in pay.

He stated he had received his CDL through C R England, but had been driving over a year so it was paid off.
So I told him had options and to start looking for another company ASAP.

In the end YOU will have to make the decision to sign on with any outfit, you can't be exploited unless you let the company do it.

I have no personal experience. But, I have been reading most of the posts on this site for a month or so and I have yet to find a single post that is not VERY critical of C R England. No one has said anything BUT negative remarks about them. You might wish to consider that info. It stood out to me. It's usually impossible to find a company that doesn't have a complaint of some type or another against it. But, you also usually find folks content and satisfied with the company. The lack of a single nuetral or positive post about them seems a pretty consistent and strong message.
    Just sayin...

ive heard good and bad things about cr england...far more bad. i have no experience with them either. but heres the big question...how much time are you agreeing to drive for them in order for them to school you for "free"? and how much will you be paid (per mile?) during that time? ive always been of the opinion that a PRIVATE school that has some affiliation with a few companies and can guarantee you a job upon completion of school is far better idea. company will repay you for the school over time, but you can leave them anytime you want to. many private schools will finance the tuition as well...school i went to was c-1 in indianapolis. guaranteed job with choice of pam, roehl, or usa truck. usa truck paid the best so i went with them. they paid me back $100 per month toward outlaid money for school. school would finance...cost at the time was either $2000 up front or $4000 financed. i chose to pay up front to save 50% plus any interest they charged for financing, but i couldve gone with very little cash available.

First, let me state that I have no experience with CR England. Even with that being said, they do not have a good reputation on the internet. With so many complaints, alot more than the average, I would be leary to recommend them to you. My suggestion to you is that- 1. First you identify what companies you would like to drive for and then 2. find out what cdl schools are acceptable to those companies.

.Not just to the original poster; but, to anyone who is looking into company provided training, I offer the following websites for you to investigate.
    http://www.schneiderjobs.com/company-drivers/driving-school-programs#findschool
www.cretecarrierjobs.com/student-driver and click on browse schools for a list of schools that they recruit from.
www.truckingtruth.com also has a button to click on for companies that provide training.

frankov, I myself am on your side of the table. I am on here myself doing research about the industry. i will have to go with the replies that have been posted to your question thus far. Not only this website but alot of other blogs and forums i have been in have not been more discouraging than encouraging of cr england. Xcis has posted some sites on his reply that you should check out if you havent already. I have a "B" and have been doing local route sales for 20 years and like yourself, I too have a daughter that is now off to college and am now looking into pursuing something I have always wanted to try. This site and so many others i have looked at have one thing in common and it is the truth. DO THE RESEARCH. And that is what i am doing. Get into the different forums on this site. By no means am i an expert, or claim to be, but if i have learned anything it is DO THE RESEARCH. Good luck.
