The first year will always be the hardest. But yes I think it will be woth it. Most training cmpanies have some form opf contract, most are a year. The key is to get that first year done so you can look for a job that better suits your needs. The problem is local type jobs often require some OTR experience. So to get a local route right away might prove challenging.
One company that seems to have the best program for home time, or local type work and still gets you good experience and will even train you is Maverick. I dont know a lot about them but the ads I have seen suggest they might be a good fit for your situation or needs. USA is a decent company. But I dont know a lot about their regional or dedicated routes. I would reccomend checking all your options and asking here on this forum all you can. Several companies offer similar training programs, the key is finding the one that works best for you.
Good luck! -
thanks for the advice, my wife is ready for me to make a decision but she isnt the one who has to fulfill the contract.

DONT Sign any contracts!!! Did you know that the turnover for new OTR trainees is over 125 per cent?? Arkansas State University at Newport offers a CDL program for only 1400 dollars. There is alot of grant money for CDL programs, too. Look into the WIA program that Arkansas offers.
However, there is one contract deal that might be worth looking into. CFI will help pay your way through Newport. They will give u a thousand dollars to pay for expenses. You'll have to go through their training program which is only 4 to 6 weeks. Your only commitment is to deliver just one load. Just remember you'll be out for 10 to 14 days before getting a day off.
U sign a one year contract with some of these OTR companies, it'll be worse than any torture that POWs receive down at Guantanamo!!!
By the way, im planning on attending ASU very soon.

lol Some of the torture the pow's are complaining about are having women put panties on their heads, and strip in front of female soldiers... Sounds more like a frat party than torture.
Electric_Hyena Thanks this.
