C1 in Ft. Wayne going to Averitt

    Hello all,
    I'm starting the C1 CDL school in Ft. Wayne In. on 21 Apr and I was wondering if anyone can tell me what to expect when I've completed the school and start with a trainer at Averitt. I've followed some threads about this journey wih other companies and C1, and want to know if my experience with Averitt will be any different.

    Ive been to this school. February of 2008 I went down to check it out. The hotel was filthy and unsafe--not only wouldn't the door lock, it wouldn't even latch. Next morning my roomate drove me to the school and we were treated very rudely for being 3 minutes late. He asked to use the bathroom and they wouldn't let him because they wanted him to take a urine test on the spot. (which the instructor referred to as a 'piss test' ). We left right then and drove home. I have since found what i beleive to be a top notch school and company. They provide a room in a national hotel chain, drive you to school and even have a meal allowance. The school sounds great and even has simulators. Not trying to dissuade you but if you take your time you can do better. I am new so not sure if I can name the company but it's based in Green Bay and has terminals and schools all over the country. Good luck!

    i havent heard many things good myself about C-1 in indy. i went to ASU in newport AR. and they had averitt students there. long way for you to go but a much better school with a WAAAY better student to instructor ratio

    Thanks for the responses.
    I didn't have a question about C1. I'm halfway through my first week there. No complaints from me so far. I live in driving distance so I don't have an opinion on the hotel. Only had one instructor so far, as its all been classroom, and he's been very friendly and helpful.
    Unfortunately, I'm not in a finacial situation that gives me much in the way of choices. I need to get on the road and generating some income asap and this school fit that need.
    My question though, was does anyone have any opinions on the trainers at Averitt. I'm going to have to spend at least a month with one and I'd like to have some idea what to expect.

    one of my claasmates/roomates went with averitt. with their dress code,standards,etc i would imagine it not to be a bad co.

    A lot of your experience will depend on your trainers personality or lack there of.

    Chances are you will be asked to do some things which you know are wrong...log book etc. Keep in mind you may have to run as team...yes I said it. IMO, running the truck as team even though you are supposed to be getting trained is WRONG. Ask questions because some trainers are not really trainers (most companies) they are SUPER TRUCKERS. If your trainer screams at you for no reason do not take it personal.

    Thanks to all that replied to my questions. It seems though that it's pretty much been in vain.
    Averitt for some reason had a problem with my work history so they dropped me. And without a carrier to pick up tuition, I was dropped from the school.
    Looking on the plus side, I now have a current DOT physical, my permit and passed the tests for all endorsements.
    I called Hiner Trucking and filled out an application with them on the way home from school. After getting home I filled out aps online for some other companies. It's frustrating, but I'm determined to get on the road and out of a factory!

    With your situation you could try Schneider, Roehl, Millis, Prime. They have their own schools. Good luck!

    There's a small or midsize company based about 50 miles from my house. Hiner. I filled out their online ap and talked to the recruiter today. Hopefully I'll be interviewing come mid week.
    I've heard nothing bad about this company anywhere. They do their own training and I'm very hopeful.
    I also got a call from a recruiter at Roehl. He seemed eager, but they want $450 up front, and a cosigner on your student loan. Not terms I can live with.
