The school is ok. Knowledgeable instructors and highly knowledgeable class room instructor. Instructors are friendly and will joke with you instead of being like a Drill Sargent. Motel is supposedly the best that the Instructors have seen. It is Holiday Inn Express South. Gotta say its nice...rooms are a little small and you of course got roommates. But its nice. Indoor Hot Tub and Indoor Pool and free Breakfast.
Does not provide shuttle services between Motel and School. Fairly easy to get rides with other students though. I drive back and forth myself.
Only true downfall is the amount of people vs the amount of Instructors and the fact the classes only keep increasing. I am in a group of 11 myself with us sharing one road and one range Instructor. Hard to get Road Time and Range/Skills time unless you catch on quick or are experienced already. They are pushing them people out leaving us with no experience and us that learn slow to just sit on the sidelines. Its a 3 week Accelerated class. If you have issues getting stuff down pat and have issues learning...make plans to stay longer than 3 weeks. Also make plans to spend $21 a night that you are here past 3 weeks. Or so it says in contract. Not sure on that for 100%.
Despite how experienced you are...state law requires you to have minimum of 120 hours of class time. Went from 100 to 120 June 1, 2012. So if you think you can get out early...don't count on it.
Indianapolis is a horrible city and I absolutely dislike it. BUT I am from the hills of Kentucky in a rather small town. Not majorly small but small enough to where it doesn't sell alcohol.
I am currently on my 3rd week and am struggling with the Pre Trip. Been "benched" today until I pass pre-trip. HOWEVER I have not driven since last Thursday and right now is Tuesday. Not upset about it because like I said I am struggling with the pre-trip. I have seen people asking questions about this school and figured I would say how it is.
Overall its a good school...just crowded.

Hey Lillonnie, I just finished C1 in Fort Wayne last Friday. I'm sure your using the same pre-trip info. That's a lot to remember isn't it? Are you using acronyms? We were taught acronyms for most sections of the truck and I also used index cards for each section. I treated those index cards like and American Express card, I didn't leave home without them. I ended up missing 0 on the pre-trip. Did they sell you the eGears video for $2 or download it on your phone for free? If you don't have the acronyms let me know and I will send them to you. You gotta get off that sideline and back into the game. And I wanna hear about you crossing that finish Line. Good luck!

O well...the school made me realize how bad I want CDLs...going to a local school in Somerset, KY. A small school and from what I understand its not a accelerated course like C1 is. But still hoping ill be able to do it a bit quicker since I got the experience.
Not upset they booted me...annoyed but o well. Not giving up -
I decided to go to sage bc of that reason. I live in fort Wayne where there is a c1 but drove and stayed in Muncie because sage was one on one training on range and driving. There is also a sage in Indy. But I wish u the best keep us updated you will succeed. Good luck

hi,
Where is a good cheap place to stay on Muncie?
I can start next week in either Indy or Muncie.
If I pay for it. The state will pay for it after July 29.
Why would you want to go to the muncie school? In Indy you will get more large city type driving. Also if you learn in Muncie you might be afraid to go into a city of that size?
The school in Muncie from what I understand only has one truck for about 6 ? students. And one bus only.
I already hasve my written permits, and a hazmat check. Will recive my TWIC card this week. Also have a passport.,, ready for the school.
I live in Fort Wayne too.Last edited: Jun 11, 2012

I went to C1 training in Indianapolis for their straight truck team driving course a few years ago. They put me OTR in 9 days. They must have been needing drivers bad. My trainer was getting ready to retire and didn't really care about training anymore. The general manager at that time was a real jerk when we said we didn't get paid for certain loads. They did finally pay us, but it was aggravating. They also didn't keep up the maintenance on the truck. Drove in blizzards with bad tires. Didn't work very long for them.

I'm trying to get my CDL training through PAM (because I'm broke), and this is the exact school that it sounds like I'll be sent to if everything goes smoothly.
Class size-wise, does anybody think the issue might be the $1200 sign on bonus PAM is offering if you go in the next two weeks? They may have been offering it for the past few. It sounds like a good deal, but if it causes problems with learning I'll wait until the rush is over. $1200 won't do me any good running down the road without clue to what I'm doing. -
I am working on going to a local school atm. Its a lot smaller...and with the bit of experience I picked up from C1...with some one on one time that ill be getting...should be pretty quick. Atm im going through the financial aid process. Have to do some Gen Ed tests then im good to go. Already been approved. Ill have to pay $1800 out of pocket...but the school does it on payment plans. The Financial Aid only does $2000.
