I need of some assistance my old compressor was going out ( I think) it wasn't building air pressure quick enough. It would work but only on higher RPMs, at idle it would recharge but it would take forever. So I bought a new air compressor and dryer since my old one was very worn.

I went from the cat double piston to the single piston so I had to get creative with the plumbing.

So I was told by bendix the tanks won't fill till the dryer reservoir reaches 100 psi my truck was only building up 50 psi. Per bendix I removed the safety valve on the dryer and put a gauge and it read 50 psi. I pressurized the system to 120 psi using the air valve, I had air in my tanks, I started the truck pressed my brake till I got the low air light and it won't build up air under high rpm or idle.

Has anyone experienced this before? Any ideas on what is wrong? I would really like to get my truck back on the road.

You likely have a leak between the compressor and the dryer. Discharge hoses deteriorate and leak often due to heat generated by the compressor. Plus, you cant hear them leaking with the engine running. Install a bypass hose to see if it builds, or cap the line at the dryer and apply shop air and get out the dish soap and water.

So I installed a hose from the compressor discharge line directly into the dryer. I plugged all ports on the dryer besides the governor line. It still won't build more than 40 psi. Everything is new, any ideas now?

Do you have the unloader line unhooked from the compressor? Is there air present when running? I cant see it in the photos.

With the unloader line unhooked, it should build until pop off pressure. If not you have a bad compressor or it's not turning.

Disconnect the unloader line. Is there air present? This will open the valves in the compressor and it wont build.

Question I have a T660 kenworth does that line from the compressor run straight to the dryer? I disconnected it from the dryer side cause it's easier. That line is buried between my coolant lines on the compressor side.

BTW thank you for your help!

    Goodysnap Thanks this.

The unloader is small 1/4" line should go directly from the compressor to the unload port on the governor.

I don't mean to butt in but is the new governor adjustable? And if so, did you set the cut out pressure after you installed it?
