Snowman did your truck start giving you problems when you replaced battery's? I'm thinking a wire is bad in the battery box that powers up ecm. Maybe after moving around cables and wires it broke connection?

I replied to a wrong thread with the bxs acert info, which I know you don't have so just ignore it, but does have some interesting info though in it.

The outside temp gauge has nothing to do with the engine ECM, that's the Namux, so you most likely have a power issue that affects both, which should narrow it down. I don't have a schematic for your truck handy, but many use relays to power up key on circuits, so a bad relay could kill more than 1 circuit. I'd also be looking for connections in the battery box, starter, any mega fuse or junction boxes it may have. Petes have a mega fuse under the hood that feeds the cab, KW probably how one somewhere too.

THANKS @GrapeApe ! Thats one of the things i wanted to know. Im was trying to narrow down everything before pulling the ecm. I wish i could get a hold of a kw wiring schematic. Thanks for the info

There should be a fuse, usually 5 amp, to activate the ECM with the key (pin # 70 on the OEM harness if I remember right). On Pete's, that's in the fuse panel near the top left. If you find that you can see if it's powering up with the key. If it's not, you can pull the fuse and jump 12 v to the ECM side of the fuse to see if it fires up. That way you'll know if the the ECM and main ECM powers/grounds are good.

No one has mentioned the actual ign switch.
Check that it is putting key on power out at the back of switch.
If that is working correctly then go to the plug on ecm truck side and check pins for power and ground.

Always check the simple things first, start at ign switch then fuses.

    UPDATE!!!!!!! PROBLEM SOVED!!!!!

@GrapeApe , what you said about the temp made sense and got me thinking outside of the box. I went ahead and started checking power supply to ECM at the pins and i noticed it was intermittent/weak. So, i started tracing wires and metering them clear back to the battery box. Started undoing the factory loom, cutting wire ties and plastic wrap. Found this!

I just happened to find this as it passed through the battery box. It was burried under alot of other looms. Dam Kenworth!!!! Lol. Anyways, just wanted to say thanks to the guys that chipped in.

I wanted to post the results. @swaan , you are RIGHT ON! Simple things first. I was getting nervous and almost started pullin ecm and fuse boxes lol......with a SLEDGE HAMMER!!!!!

Thanks again guys, shes up and perking like shes supposed to be.

Also, this big wire came right off one of the positive cables. 1211161115.jpg So i cut it off and im solder splicing in a new wire.

Glad you figured if out! I think what happened is when you put new battery's in, all the wires and cables got moved and so I suppose that one wire that was chaffing for some time finally broke contact thus giving you this problem. Good thing you were close to home to diagnose if yourself.

    snowman_w900 Thanks this.

Every single kw I have owned I have had issues with the way those wires are routed. I have re rapped those wires on every kw I have owned. A bad design.
