The 3406E is 14.6 liters. Everything after it from the C15 and on are all larger.

I have a 5DS in a 98 flat top that says 3406E on one valve cover and 15.8L on another. It also came as 600hp. 2050 on torque 18 speed 3.36 rears etc. everything about that ####### is heavy. Ain’t nothing it won’t tote either.

Not all C15 are 15.2L they were 14.6L till the Acert.

I don’t know a whole lot about Cats, a ride with a C18 came up for sale. It’s got marine parts and tune. Would that be a good truck motor? I read in this thread that they don’t like idling, at least the marine cam. Plus I imagine it needs more cooling power. Just trying to learn more about this motor.

Little late to the party here, but I’ve run a couple of different marine cams in Cats and if you’re gonna do it, get the bigger C18 cam. If I remember my part number right it’s a 201-2677. By far the best one I tried. Had one in a C16 with stock injectors, turbo and tune but trim codes changed for the injectors and it put down 730 hp. After swapping out injectors and putting a set of compound turbos on it really woke up. Could easily get 7 mpg in the summer with it. Ran 1 million miles before I gave it the big O.

What's the point in putting a cam in? My 3406e has all the original 550 hard parts with only a tune, turbo and manifold. It put down about 750 to the wheels when it was dynoed after the last overhaul.

Just depends on how much hp you want to make. If you’re happy at 750, that’s great. I wanted more. At the time I bought that cam back in 2006 it was only $1,000. As far as upgrades go, that’s reasonably cheap for the hp increase it yielded

So how much are you getting on the dyno with the cam, injectors and tune?

Put down just short of 1,000 hp on a stock 7CZ file. Never put it back on the rollers after that. I had several different files I would run, just depending on what I was doing with it.
