So ill be in Cali this weekend waiting to make my drops on Monday. I have a new truck with no APU and I need power for my cpap machine. Was wondering if anyone could give me some insight, or suggestions.

If it has the Certified Clean Idle sticker on the door doesn't that mean you can idle out there?

I'm reading the law now, and that's what I'm getting out if it.

    You idle...you pay.
That sticker only means Cali says your truck is a clean idle, but you can't.

That being said, I'd figure your cpap won't run your batteries down. I know others that use a cpap without idling or an apu.

If it were me, I'd idle the truck as needed. From what I've seen, and judging from the number of trucks out there that run constantly regardless of the idle laws in every state, I'm guessing the intention of the law is to deter the practice. I'm not saying that there is no enforcement, but it appears to be very rare. Otherwise all of the trucks wouldn't be idling.

Idle laws generally contain language dealing with exceptions. Which helps explain the lack of enforcement. For example, if the temperature is below 40 or over 75 and the only heat/cooling source is to idle the truck, its allowed. Another one I've seen deals with using equipment that needs the truck to be running which covers your situation.

On my last trip to Cali, the only trucks idling were the ones WITHOUT the sticker. I get the feeling any citations issued where in "hippie" areas, not, say, Ontario, CA where enforcing CARB probably rates pretty low on the priority list.

My cpap doesn't drain the batteries after a 10 hour break so I wouldn't worry.

    IF.....
You get a ticket. Take it to court. It would be thrown out without question as you have a medical condition.

    Don't count on that one!
Had a driver that was ticketed in Sacramento for idling. He went to court and used that 'excuse' (and he did use a cpap machine).
Judge told him, "sorry...have your employer pay for a motel next time."

It makes no rhyme or reason how they enforce the law. I've seen them ticketing in Ontario during the dead of summer (105 outside).
    They're just p ricks.
