I agree, the whole points thing is BS. I would contact them and negotiate, like, Ill pay the fine and not fight this, if you will agree to not to give me any points, otherwise I will fight it. never hurts to try, and most magistrates will do that, it keeps the paper work down and the in person visits down.

A: Plan each and every trip down to the last mile. I know before I hit the hiway. How far it is, how far I will drive EACH day and where I will stop. I can tell my company exactly, down to the hour when I will dell.

B: After 2 hrs tell the company you a delay at the dock. After 4hrs let the comapany know that the load may be late. After 6 tell them it will be late. Most companies will get on the shipper after the 1st call and defferently by the 2nd. It is not my problem to del on-time if the shipper can't ship on time.

C: In Cal you figure that EVERY ticket has points on it. Thats why you allways behave in Cal and give them the finger when you leave.

I didn't know about the point assessment until about 7-8 months later. Thinking it was a parking ticket, I just paid it and forgot about it. The problem is, there is no way to find out if a ticket has a point assessment. California Department of Motor Vehicles has a list of 'common violations' that have point assessments. This one is not on the list, so obviously it is an uncommon ticket. I went to a DMV office and asked them; they didn't know, they gave me the same list. Called Sacramento, they didn't know, said call the judge. But there is no judge, because I paid the ticket and therefore a judge never saw it. Had I know from the beginning there was a point penalty I would have pled not guilty and done like you say. My answer was to join TVC a commercial driver's legal service. They did some awsome work for me, I mean they got me out of some deep doo-doo. I will never drive again without them.

YEP, and they will suspend your (out-of-state) drivers license if you don't pay.

had youmade it to the top of the hill you could of hit the rest area or gone a little further to Chirlaco Summit and parked in the big dirt lot next to the chevron station.he got you because of WHERE you were, considering there was most likely plenty of parking over at that casino behind the T-A. as for TVC--they have done me well when i needed their services.

In 10+ years of driving I have never been desperate enough to park on the on/off ramp of the freeway. Do what you have to do to, but dont do that. I see trucks parking there all the time when there is an almost empty truck stop at that exit. Pure laziness I think sometimes. I saw a fatal accident a few days ago where a ford van driver fell asleep and rear ended a Miller truck that was parked on an offramp doing 70+. Big fire ensued and both the van and Miller trailer and its load were destroyed, not to mention a fatality.

Well, if you going to do that at least be safe about it, and park on the ON ramp, as opposed to the OFF ramp.

This guy has never pulled a reffer!! Hes probably never had an apointment at 2 or 3 am to get loaded or unloaded. How many times have we pulled out of a shipper at 2 or 3 am dead tired but as soon as your MT or loaded your told to leave the property!!
Its not always "poor" trip planning recruit!!! stay out here long enough you will learn these things! Your posting only shows your a Newb! Im not saying there is anything wrong with being a new guy, but you should think before you post! The things you learned in trucking school do not always apply out here!!

    Two responses

To javelinjeff, you're right I am sure about those spots. But you are making the assumption that all drivers are aware of those locations. There may be a thousand spots down the road and around the bend. Do you violate your HOS in the hope of finding one?

To gator---Amen, Brother! I've pulled reefers. One of my runs, hauling mushrooms, had my first stop at Walmarts. If you are late, dispatch has to make another appt which will be the next day. By that time the product quality has degrade. By the time I get to the next five stops in Utah, it's degraded further and I'll be getting rejections. By the time I get to my last stop in Idaho I got a definate rejection. Perishables are called that, Why?, because they perish.

Or, how about this one. I used to haul sludge from Shell Oil. Sludge is the crap leftover in the production of light oils. It is crude oil with an 85% concentration of sulphuric acid. Further, it is in a reactive state requiring constant monitoring of tank pressure. I hauled it from Martinez, CA to Los Angeles, CA. It is extremely time-sensitive. If you hour-out 100 miles from your delivery---you better deliver or you'll be calling ChemTrac and setting up a three mile containment area requiring evacuation of anyone downwind, should the pressure build to the point that the product, via a pop-off valve vents into the atmosphere. Actually, the three mile radius is in the event of a major spill. Nevertheless, vent to the atmosphere and there are costly consequences. The more one drives, the more one will find themselves making some hard decisions.
