I know that this is probably in an earlier post, but I don't feel like running through 22 pages of posted items. What has ever happened to the "Clean Air Certified Idle" sticker by Cummins? There was a program implemented by Cummins to meet California emission standards during idle times. As I was told if you had that sticker on your truck you could idle it. I still see brand new trucks with those stickers on them. Did they now say that those stickers are no good? If you read the article posted in the lnk below you will see what I am talking about.

You are correct, if the truck has a "clean idle" engine you can idle the truck. I know Cummins has one, I believe Volvo and Mack do as well, but that might just be w/ a Cummins engine. You know that the law will change after most trucks meet this requirement and are idling away again. Someone will say " all those trucks are wasting fuel", and the law will be amended to simply not allow idling, period.:biggrin_25516:

:biggrin_25516:all you guys complaining need to get apu's. the fuel savings alone will pay for it, you need to change with the times.i'm sitting next to a guy right now that's been idleing ALL DAY and i'm in cali i'm thinking he's kinda of a ####### i almost want to call the law on him:biggrin_25510: i can't get any sleep:biggrin_25518: with that p.o.s truck making all that noise.hell the idleaire here would have been cheaper than the fuel he's wasting after idleing for over 12 hours.
i think apu's should be standard equipment on all trucks with sleeper's
if you have a pet get a APU.some day drivers will look back and say wow they wasted MILLIONS of gallions.apu's will be like tv's cb's and a/c.every one will have them.
    i coulden't live without mine!!!!

I couldn't have said it better. I hate hearing trucks needlessly idling at 65 deg. Or setting next to some 1990's p.o.s. idling away with the driver now where near it for hours. :biggrin_25510:I wish all states would have no ideal laws for any reason and strongly enforce them. But thats just my opinion. Oh wait, that's what states are doing.:yes2557:

i disagree with the last 2 posts. for 1, no company driver in their right mind will spend over 8grand to have an apu installed.
i no your next comment will be to go work for a company that has the apus, sure thats fine, but maybe that company does not pay as well as the company he is with now, maybe someone inside an idling truck is sick and has bad heat flashes? i no, im sure ur next comment would be to go see a docotor, maybe he cant afford to go see one.. then im sure ur next comment would be to go get a hotel room for the night or untill he feels better, thats fine to say, but perhaps he cant afford a hotel room?
its great that if you own ur own truck u have an APU on it, thats awesome, you have better luck then the guy that can not afford either a new truck or an apu to put on his truck.... before u no it APUs will be standard equipment on all trucks being built..
you say go buy an APU like its that easy... it aint! and you say you almost wanted to go call the law on him? thats sad that you would do that to a fellow truck driver, and cost him maybe thousands of dollars, you should be calling the law on people who are putting others at danger... youll prob say that u not gettign enough sleep will put you at danger which maybe true, so move ur truck... and get the rest you need.
have u ever heard some of these APU units, like black rock and pony packs and how freakin loud they are?
what if a refer was parked next to you and the refer motor was running, how would you call the law and report that? he cant shut that off... hes allowed to run his refer, and some refers make more noise then an idling truck... there is no difference between him idling his truck, or the guy keeping his refer unit on...

Just out of curiosity, what would you do in 100+ degree California weather if your APU took a dump, wouldn't run, and it'd be days before it could be repaired? No Idle-Aire available and your company doesn't pay for motels.

Would it be the noise of your Big truck truck motor idling that keeps you awake? Or would you cowboy up and sweat it out? :biggrin_25521::pale:

What:biggrin_2551:Are you kidding me. First off why should I move? He should be more considerate and shut that #### thing off. If it's 95 out side ok run it. But at 70 or when at the fuel pumps? Thats just being stupid. Second there is no comparison between a idling truck and a refer. Idling truck 70% of the time un-necessary. Refer, running as part of the job. So the fact is if more drivers would be more considerate and not idle "because it's there truck and they will do what they want" or "it's the companies fuel, what do I care." Then maybe just maybe there wouldn't be new rules on it.

APU's in Cali need to meet their emission requirements. Some states aren't allowing APU's to run either.

The battery systems on the newer trucks sound good in theory. Just like the POS hybrid cars. The batteries are a disposal problem. Plus eventually you need to recharge them. If you sit for more than 10 hours you will need to run the engine to recahrge them.

BAAK: He didn't call a poster stupid he was referring to a driver leaving the truck idling at 70* or on the fuel island as BEING stupid which I have to agree with even tho I don't read to many of Kbars posts as tiny red letters are just to hard to read. But I do believe you are a tad bit wrong here!
