I love cabovers, but have been told they are death traps. I was told by a trucker that the pins break in an accident and the cab comes forward. He says he has had to berry a few truckers from collisions in cabovers. Is this true??? Are they not as safe as a regular hooded truck??
Cabover More Dangerous??

I would have to agree with whoever told you this. My husband had an accident in Dec of 2002 that should have killed him, because the latch pins broke, and he ended up watching his own front tires headed at him while hanging upside down.... Only by the Grace of God is he still here.

I would compare that to a mid sixties chevy van vs a mid sixties chevy pickup,,,in the van(like the COE),the area you are sitting in is the first area to get crushed, and the weight of the motor is behind/alongside of you.this equates to high probability of serious injury. But just about any crash in a truck at highway speeds can easily kill you

just remember you will be the first one at the scene of the accident

I'm sure you could beef the front pins up if you are really worried about it.

nobody can "plan" a safe accident.
They're freak things and nobody can ever take every variable into account to make a 'perfectly safe vehicle.'
Both my instructors drove cabovers most of their careers (20+ years) and neither have an unkind word for them. -
