This is a little embarrassing to ask since I've been pulling flatbeds for 5 years now but I'd rather ask than get a ticket.
My total weight is 29k and I'm picking up a 51k load tomorrow that is only 9 feet long. How to i figure out how far back from center to put it and be as close to 34k as possible on the drives? I'd like to be 33-34k on the drives and 34-35k on the spread.
I have a 10.1ft spread axle trailer with 29 feet between the king pin and the center of the forward axle. Any easy way to calculate this?

Op, measure from the kingpin to the center of your spreads and mark the center point between those two points.
Now take your empty axle weights and subtract your drive axle weight from 34k. That's how much weight of the load you can put on your drives.
51,000 divided by 9 is 5,666.666 lbs per foot of the load. With those numbers you move forward or back of the center point you found to center the weight.Hurst, Dye Guardian, Liquidforce and 11 others Thank this. -
Or you get smart and start pulling a van and just slide the tandems accordingly.
