I was told there is a calculation for determining how much fuel to buy according to miles. Cant recall but I thought it was miles divided by 7. Anyone actually know?

You need to know what your average fuel economy is first.

I average about 7.5 when I have less than 30k on the trailer. When I buy fuel I do the calculation x miles divided by 6.5 = how much fuel to buy.

That usually gives me a bit of wiggle room for idling and so forth. If I have a super heavy load I do it at 5.5 or 6.

I'm old school I guess I just fill it up unless weight is a issue .. elog snags too much time if I'm stopping extra often for fuel.. I do however try to pick cheapest pump price after ifta is figured out

Want to shed a link to how to calculate IFTA friend???? There was a website I knew of once, that told the cost of fuel, before the tax, in an area of interest but I have forgotten that website. I wish there was an app for that...lol

Here is a link to IFTA's webpage with fuel taxes for various fuels for all IFTA member jurisdictions. You could work up a spreadsheet to do your own calculations if you're so inclined.

Miles you have to go divided by the number of miles you truck goes on a gallon of fuel.

EDIT: Unless your company says otherwise or you are playing the "run down the tanks before the scale to stay legal" game, you should always keep your tanks full.
