I was told there is a calculation for determining how much fuel to buy according to miles. Cant recall but I thought it was miles divided by 7. Anyone actually know?

You need to know what your average fuel economy is first.

Here's a great thread about fuel mileage
Will Dave make it?x1Heavy and augiedoggie41 Thank this. -
I average about 7.5 when I have less than 30k on the trailer. When I buy fuel I do the calculation x miles divided by 6.5 = how much fuel to buy.
That usually gives me a bit of wiggle room for idling and so forth. If I have a super heavy load I do it at 5.5 or 6.BigSexy53 Thanks this. -
I'm old school I guess I just fill it up unless weight is a issue .. elog snags too much time if I'm stopping extra often for fuel.. I do however try to pick cheapest pump price after ifta is figured out

Miles you have to go divided by the number of miles you truck goes on a gallon of fuel.
EDIT: Unless your company says otherwise or you are playing the "run down the tanks before the scale to stay legal" game, you should always keep your tanks full.Last edited: Sep 20, 2017
