Hey all, I am up in Pittston after unloading this afternoon at Wegmans in Pottsville Pa. I left the house Wednesday morning for a delivery in Miami. After unloading I went to Belle Glade and loaded a load of Lettuce for a Friday delivery in Florence NJ. I was already told last week that my truck was due for a semi-annual inspection and to expect a layover until it's complete. After unloading in Florence yesterday I was given a reload for this morning in Kennett Square Pa. going up to Pottsville Pa. for an afternoon delivery today. After leaving the consignee yesterday to hole up at the TA in Paulsboro NJ I got a phone call from Mort in safety telling me that after unloading Saturday to head over to the motel by the terminal and check in for 2 nights on the companies dime, so that is where I'm at. It's very refreshing to have a company like Calex look out for their drivers. In order for me to get back on my weekend home time I will ask dispatch for a load going to the midwest and back then pick up at one of our customers at the end of the week. I am not one to complain about not being home this weekend, after 6+ months here I think this is the third time I had to be out 2 weeks and miss a weekend home. After reading what others have to endure to make a living I have absolutely nothing to complain about.

    Johnboy,
Glad things are still going well for you. My new boss bought me a 09 Cascadia, and a 2011 Utility Trl. Truck is at Thermo King right now getting TriPac installed. I still havent driven a mile, but I am getting a bad feeling. I hope its all in my head.
Boss had to go to Italy, problem at one of his factories, so I havent spoken to him in a week. Still, I am waiting.
Take good care, keep the sunny side up.......

    Larry

Due to the fact that I'm really bored and am waiting for the USA/Canada hockey game for the gold medal, I thought I'd put out some thoughts, questions and opinions. Please don't hold me responsible for these comments, it's just that I finally have time to speak whats on my mind, and ask some questions.
    Here goes,

    1) Why is it you can catch up to a big truck, but it takes you 5 miles to pass it?

    2) When getting passed by a big truck, is it necessary to have to swerve to avoid being forced off the road by the passers trailer?

    3) Is it acceptable to take a coffee break at the fuel island after fueling?

    4) Am I the only one that flashes their lights to let a big truck know it's safe to come over?

    5) Why is it that the Canadian Customs at the border treats you with more respect than the United States Customs?

    6) Is it true that speed accounts for more truck accidents in snow than any other factor?

    7) Why do drivers allow themselves to be pooped on by their companies? Speak up, be heard!

    8) When was the last time you left a shipper/receiver after not getting loaded/unloaded at your appointment time?

    9) Any opinions about signs that say restrooms are for employees only?

    10) Anybody ever been told that electric pallet jacks are to be operated by licensed people? Excuse me sir, I just drove 1500 miles through a snow storm and dealt with every type of driver you can imagine, and you're telling me I'm not qualified to operate this pallet jack 60 feet?

    11) Does anybody else have a wife that makes sure your fridge is stocked with home cooked meals every time you get ready to leave?

    12) Are truck stops with Idle Aire going to decorate the equipment next Christmas?

    13) I wonder if there's a way to be creative with E-Logs.

    14) Will it ever get back to the way it was in the late 70's and early 80's?

    15) Here goes, when I started driving, I-10 through Phoenix wasn't finished, either was I-90 through Seattle.

That's it for now, any comments will be greatly appreciated.

    GO U.S.A.!!!

Amen on the taking coffee breaks while parking on the fuel islands.....that's one of my biggest pet peeves. You gotta love it when the lazy SOB parks on the fuel island and you get blocked in, and this inconsiderate Richard head comes out 20 mins. later with his Mc Donalds or subway in his hand. How freaking hard is it to find a designated parking spot.

Hey all, got home around noon today after getting empty in Orlando this morning. I called in and reminded my dispatcher I needed to be home this weekend. I have a Doctors appt. tomorrow, need to get a hair cut, and bring my laptop in for a tune up. Then its off to Daytona with the bike and some friends to get the last weekend of bike week under my belt. He told me to call in sometime tomorrow to get my reload info for Monday. I have to say, it sure is nice to be able to plan some things with this company. So far I've only asked to be home on a given day twice and it's work out perfectly. Be safe all, God Bless.

The wife and I are headed over to bike week tomorrow, or what's left of it, after we get off from work. We go over for the supercross every year and it's one of the things we look forward to all year long, I heard rumor that the attendance is low this year though, I've been noticing the last few years with the down economy that the numbers have been dwindling, I started going in 2000 and the difference from then to now is amazing. Have a safe ride, and keep enjoying the job, it's nice to have a few of us on here with good things to say, go figure............

Enjoy your weekend. If the traffic going south this past week was any indication, attendance will be real low. Thanks for reading and relpying to the blog.
