I did this religiously on EVERY pre-trip I did, even if I was hooked to the same trailer for days. Anyway, what a crazy trip you had. I may miss the travel, but I don't miss some of the other stuff. Enjoy your weekend John, and safe travels when you head back out.

Thats a very good "habit" to get into, always checking that its locked, I half dropped one about 10 years ago or more and that cured me of not checking it!!, never again.:biggrin_25524: I talked to one of the Calex drivers the other day at the Pilot in Bath, Ny seemed kind of disgusted, said that most of there Coast freight had died or dropped off. Is the Coast freight just slow or is it dead?? I have been following things here thinking of applying in the Spring but man if its that slow it may not be the best choice.

30 seconds of his time would have saved alot of problems... i even go as far as when i park for the night i set my trl brakes and pull fwd tight against the pin so no one can pull the jaws open.....

a funny thing happened friday on my way down the hill to the yard .i was bobtail.. had another calex truck behind me.. wont give the number,, and i was following the 20 mph speed limit for trucks over 20,000. when we got into the yard he pulled up along side of me and gave me a whole lot of crap for going so slow that i didnt have to go that slow i was under the posted weight... i asked him what his truck weighed he said he didnt know.. i said well open your door and read the sticker because mine weighs 22,300 bobtail....

Produce is slow this time of year. That's all we haul back to our 2 customers in PA. It's been like that the almost 3 years I've been here. And the last 30 years I've been running the west coast. It's slow out there if you live out there, not for me living in Florida. I get my 2700-3000 p/w like clock work. Then when produce season opens I'l run out there every so often for a change of scenery.

Subtract about 700 miles from those numbers and that was the reason I left. For the life of me I can't figure out why I couldn't get the miles you did and do. I was willing to run and only complained when I didn't get enough.

I truly believe it has a lot to do where you live, and running to certain areas. Gary is running good miles, Chris is also. I know John from Inverness is doing good as is Tom from Melbourne. I mainly run to Florida and then it takes me 2 loads to get back to PA. It's right at 1200 miles to Orlando then right at 1600 miles back. That come out to 2800.

The other places I've gone has been to Lubbock on a Texas two step that amounted to 3700 miles in 6 days then once to Denver and back in 6 days for 3600 miles. When I first started here I was running from PA to Orlando, then 2 loads that got me up to St. Catherine's Ontario, then reloaded back to the Yard. That was good for 3100 miles in a week.

I have spoken to Todd numerous times about his sitting. You know that being a single driver living in California you need to take a mandatory reset. I take mine when I get empty out there, he took his when he got empty in PA, then went home and took a few deserved days off. Unfortunately that 2800 mile trip is now taking him 10 days to do. I understand his leaving and anyone else's that has left for lack of miles.

I'm not saying there's no miles, what I'm saying is to run to certain areas. I would love to run out west, but Louie tells me every Thursday when I talk to him that it's very slow out west right now and that he won't send me there just to sit. It will start picking up in March then I will go west and north west, take my reset then load back.

When I leave Florida with a fresh 70 and know I'll be going west it works perfectly for miles. I end up in California with about 4200 miles and around 1 hour left on my 70. I take my reset then load and go back to PA and then home for about 4600 miles then take 3 days off.

I've always said being a solo driver living in CA, running the way Calex is set up, I wind up with more miles per week then they do.

Also John you are very good about your trip planning and getting the most out of your allotted driving hours and 30 plus yrs of doing it also helps. Like you have stated in earlier posts what works for you might not work for others.

    JohnBoy Thanks this.
