You know they own the Volvo dealership right?

Yes I do. They sharpened their pencils and figured their bottom line could benefit from a different truck manufacturer. That was last weeks news, this week they are saying that they might go back with Volvo and the Volvo engine instead of the Cummins engine. We'll see what next weeks news will be.

Just got my new load info. 5 p/u's in Salinas/Castroville tomorrow and finishing up on Friday. Delivers midnight Tuesday. Mileage for this trip will be 3150 paid miles and 4 extra p/u's. With my trip out and extra stop pay this comes out to a pretty good trip mileage and pay wise.

    JohnBoy,

It would not surprise me if they went with Volvo as they will lower their prices to retain a customer like Calex. It is marketing 101 as the Freightliner thing was most likely fishing to see how good of a deal they could get if they bought in bulk. Now Calex will go to Volvo and see if they come lower on their prices. If so, Volvo will win.

I agree somewhat with your take on this. But I can't help to think that the repair cost that they have incurred over the lifespan of these trucks far outweighs any upfront savings they might have gotten when they took delivery of these trucks. From what I can see, Calex doesn't trip over a quarter to save a nickle, even if they do own the local Volvo dealership.

Johnny - only 5 pickups? You're slippin' kid - used to be 10-15 in the old days eh? I had to grin when I saw that - I thought only I get those :) Hi from home in FL - got here this morning and delivered at 4 am in Orlando - was done by 0630, believe it or not. Paty says hi and hopes and prays for your safe trip back across buddy. Congrats on the fruitful trip and I know you're helping lots of folks here. Mort asked me to be available Sun or Monday to do a road test possibly for someone. Gonna enjoy some home cooking now, catch up with the wifey after 3 weeks gone and enjoy my 4 beautiful kids. By the way, Paty's doing much better healthwise.

    Thanks and God Bless!

By the way, I just finished a trip out and back to Cali as you know, and managed to get in the paperwork by 10am Monday - so tomorrow's check will be my all-timer - approx 6000 miles plus extra pu and dlvy. Life is good at Calex! Viva the Calex Team!
