What a concept, live at either end and get home on a regular basis. Can you imagine what it would do to driver retention if this was standard practice?

Johnboy,
If I ever have to bolt from my 1st company - Calex will be at the top of my contact list. At my age home time is a little more important than it was 20+ years ago on my first go around as a driver. A company that treats you like more than just another piece of equipment is also more important now too.The Challenger Thanks this. -
They aren't perfect, but after doing the 3-5+ weeks gone at a time for many years when I first started my career, this is by far the best job for me now. I missed so much being gone early on that it has taken me many years to fix. At this stage of my life home time is the most important aspect of my job. Couple that with a bunch of great people to work for and the paycheck every week and it's a win/win for me. I read this blog every day and hear what drivers go through in order to survive that it makes me very thankful for what I have fallen into here at Calex. A driver has to do what's right for them and their family so I refuse to knock them for it. It's just a shame it took me 25 years to find out there is a better way.Hitman, The Challenger and MoneyCat Thank this.

And to think johnboy, you found Calex on craigslist of all places. Funny how things turn out sometimes.
JohnBoy Thanks this. -
Lets not even go there. My opinion about a job search on craigslist is very negative. The only thing it's good for is to sell something on. Oh, and occasionally getting a good laugh at the casual encounters section. But you are exactly right, if you look hard enough, you might find what you are looking for in the most unlikely places. The Challenger Thanks this.

JOHNBOY,I have been following this thread for quite a while and I have really enjoyed reading about your journey with Calex. I too live in Florida and have been thinking of returning to trucking .They sound like a good company. I noticed that they are not currently looking for any drivers except local. Do you know of any openings that may come up. buy the way it has been about 2 years since I last drove a truck. Thanks for this thread it has been great reading and very informative
JohnBoy Thanks this. -
Right now they aren't looking for any more Florida drivers, but I have come to find out find that changes weekly. You might want to call into safety and ask for Mort. He will answer any questions you might have, as far as the 2 year lapse, they have been known to work with drivers about that.

Hey JROTRA, I just moved from Inverness, out off of Gospel Island Road to be exact, what a small world, welcome to the forum. JohnBoy, didn't mean to get off topic here, it's just rare I see anyone hailing from the great city of Inverness, hell that's where I was raised..........
