These cold cases are no joke. If you leave DNA behind, they’ll find you.

In some form or another body parts have DNA.
Blood, semen, saliva, hair follicles, fingernails, traces of skin, even fingerprints-if it came off a human body DNA is in there!
My wife is a DNA analyst with the Massachusetts State Police.
You’d be surprised at how some cases have been solved with the smallest things.
And the perps accused of the crimes committed are either convicted and/or take a plea deal to avoid a longer sentence because they know the evidence has them dead to rights!
Sometimes the results are inconclusive (DNA does degrade over time or sometimes it can be destroyed) but majority of the time the suspect(s) can be placed at the scene of the crime.
Usually she’ll be dealing with assaults or B&E(breaking and entering) but in recent months there’s been a bumper crop of homicide cases.
Springfield sends a lot of business her way!

This is why if a firearm is used, some suspects wipe the firearm down,to attempt to remove the fingerprints with their DNA on it!
