California CDL.. What I found out!

Hey guys.. So I'm leaving my local job of 12 years in California to go OTR and find another state to live in (cost of living/traffic/California) and I am almost hired on to an OTR company.. The problem here that I found out, and I had ZERO clue about is that when you go into the medical office to renew your medical certification they always ask you if you drive in state or go out of state. Well, being as I was a local guy I always said that I drive within California, so the doctor checked the Intra-state box. What no one told me, and probably not a lot of people is that if you say you drive Intra-State, when they send that in California puts a restriction on your CDL! You can't leave the borders of California, and the freight you have must have originated in California and its destination must be within California. Since I tried searching the forums I thought I'd just put this up here as now in order for me to get that OTR job I have to go back and sit in the California DMV to go 'Self Certify" myself and have them change it to "Interstate". I posted this in truckers advice because it kinda is for the new guys.. I don't see any downside to just saying you drive Interstate.
