I'm looking into a job that involves multiple stops in the west coast, including LA. I'm not sure what this means. For example someone could say I'm going to Chicago when it's the surrounding areas and I'm not driving on downtown Wabash.
So, knowing I'm lacking much helpful information and including that I've driven every other major metropolitan area without issues (excluding NYC) how is driving in California and the LA area? I've never been.
Should I be running the other way or is it like anything else and I'll get used to it?

You get used to it. Best thing to do is start as far west as possible in the morning and then make your way back east later in the day.
Trying to make your way west in the afternoon is suicideCluelessRoadie Thanks this. -
Prepare to waste an entire shift in traffic. I came out of Oxnard a few weeks back at 1:15 pm and didn't get to Banning til sunset. 210 in particular is seemingly always awful, especially around Pasadena. If you love constant heavy traffic with truck lane restrictions and a lot of tight spots to pickup and deliver to, go for it lol

And in case you weren't aware, speed limit in Cali is 55 mph statewide, even out in the middle of the desert

You got it. And you'll be thrilled to even get up to 55 once you sit in traffic forever

Lot of mountain driving as well, they're everywhere in Cali. And California's chain law sucks and there are times in SoCal where the chain law is up (Grapevine and Tehachapi)

You're doing a really good job of making me not want to take this Michigan to west coast sweet long haul dedicated position lol.

Once you get used to it it's not that bad
