I grew up there too... I spent 14 years in the east before I started trucking and was already versed in the system.

Simple concept huh? There are still a few areas that have exit numbers that dont match up with mile markers like New York and Mass... to name a few.

I grew up in New Jersey and the Turnpike and Parkway are pretty random in placement of exits and numbering of the exits. I thought every state was the same way until I moved to Georgia 18 months ago.

We don't use mile markers to navigate here. We use the graffiti on the freeways to do so....[IMG]

The toll road, I90, is numbered backwards. it goes down as you go east. Then add to that that the exits aren't numbered according to their mile markers, it does make for some confusion. California, I will never figure out. I see there are numbers on the call boxes, but I can't figure out what they mean. They have started putting numbers on the exits though.

California never wanted us to be able to place a "bear" at a particular mile marker, so there are none. Exits being numbered was by federal 'comply or else' edict several years ago.

That was one of the reasons i hated driving in cali. You couldn't figure out where you were by the yard stickers. It drove me bonkers. No wonder everyone out there is nuts. No offense to some of the more sane californians on this forum.
