How many days transit time is there between LA and Miami? How much fuel will they burn? How much does it cost to transit the Panama Canal? How much more will it cost to move the freight to it's final destination?

How much does it cost the ship operator to leave the ship in line at LA?

I have no doubt that's ship's currently in transit will be rerouted if possible, but that's not always practical.

Look, the math is pretty simple.
Drivers can average 'X' number of containers a day given current HOS rules.
Increasing the length of the day will not change that equation at all. The only thing that will change it is if they suspend some HOS rules and find someplace to put the containers.

This guy thinks it's gonna get a lot worse.......
The CEO of a logistics startup took a boat tour of the Port of Long Beach and found a lot of things wrong, including terminals 'simply overflowing with containers'

Peterson wrote on Twitter that the supply-chain crisis has become "a negative feedback loop that is rapidly cycling out of control" adding that "if it continues unabated will destroy the global economy."

Your right the math is simple. Only problem is you are looking at the wrong equations. HOS isn't the main problem. The main problem is the shipping companies operating out of the ports aren't paying enough to attract enough trucks to move their product.
Right before the pandemic there was a hit piece on the plight of the poor LA port O/O and they were making just over $1 / mile. For a shipping company that cheap, do you really think they increased their rates enough to actually move product?

Basically there are two kinds of people.

The one's that wash their face before they wash their ### when they shower, and the one's that wash their ### before their face.

This is what happens when you allow the second group to vote.

I always wash my hiney first.
Mostly because it stinks the most.
But also because all that hair works up a swell lather.
    And I vote.
So, I guess this is all my fault.
And I am not at all surprised.
