Technically in the desert of CA you can probably do 62 mph and not be bothered.....something I learned from California dedicated drivers, its Technically not 10 over and you can easily back it down to 55 if in a speed trap zone....

I travel CA often, basically all over. If you keep it under 65 very doubtful they'll bug you. I usually run 61 or 62. If I'm in a hurry 63. In traffic, I stay with the flow, be it 50 or 65. I'm governed at 65, so only go faster if I'm going down hill anyway. I do know drivers ticketed, but they were over 65.

The California 55 mph speed limit for trucks will never change. Back before the Interstates went in in some places trucks were limited to 45mph. The Teamsters had a lot to do with keeping the 55 alive, as slower trucks meant more hours for their members. Now the CHP's influence with the legislature keeps it there.
But as already said, if you just go with the flow, 62-63 mph will not even get you noticed.
