wow your really upset about this im a 33 year vet trucker and have done paper logs and 3 million miles of safe driving and NO ELD I'm a grown man and I dont want some machine saying when and how long I can drive. Some day i may want to drive 300 miles and other days 700 miles with eld you cant do this and the freedom of being an independent driver goes away with eld's you become a bote for some company.

Thus proving the person you replied to points. You want the freedom to break the 11/14 hour rule. Has nothing to do with the ELD other than you will be recorded breaking it. As for the 33 year driver, and not wanting some machine to tell you how long you can drive, you missed the point of your quote.
The machine doesn't tell you squat, it simply records (mostly) accurately your driving. What is telling you you cannot drive are the laws that have been around, in one form or another, for over 80 years. I guess if you have been driving longer than 80 years you have a right to complain that you are in a regulated field, but otherwise you started working in a regulated field. Either deal or leave the field.

That describes a portion of the industry. One of our runs is an over night. The day crew loads the truck, he leaves at about 4 pm for a 12 hr run (Canada destination). Unloading is at 8 am. Before the 14 hr rule, the driver would stop at 1 or 2 am in Helena or Great Falls and sleep for three hours or so, and then head on to the border. Unload, take another nap, and head back home. Now, he's forced to keep running until he's dog tired and arrives at 5, to sit and wait for the receiver to wake up.

HOS makes us operate more unsafe. Period. End of story. With all the cameras at all the POE's in the NW, creative logging is impossible.

The only difference ELD's make is that they take another $1,000 out of our pockets......

Hopefully some time after the mandate they rework the HOS to give us more hours and freedom to use them... Since we will all be tracked more than people on terrorist watch lists....

Maybe the drivers just needs more time to do the run. If the driver runs it legal and still stops to rest. They can pay more if that's what needed because the driver needs to stop and rest. I'm guessing they don't want that, they now want the driver to just keep driving and not stop. To me that's the problem, they don't want to pay or give the driver realistic drive times. Maybe they will have to pay team rates if they can't give the driver more time.

Nobody wants to admit driving all night is not easy and just think the driver should never stop to rest. They don't want to pay team rates, they don't want to admit the driver needs more time. Everyone just want to pretend everything is ok, when it's not.

Put the ELD in and let the driver stop and rest and run it legal and see when the driver get their. Then people will find out the real drive time and the real cost of driving all night and that run.

Lol or change the stupid law so he can keep doing it how he does it and no problem. Obviously he's doing it "illegal" but safe. Now he's going to do it "legal" but more stressed out... Further pointing at the uselessness of government. Keep being a statist....

What's the point in delaying it? How can you ever hope for HOS to change unless there is an accurate method of recording it? If you are following the HOS rules now, this changes nothing; if you're cooking the books, I can understand why you don't want this. This isn't government over reach, it's interstate commerce and they can do as they please. There isn't a privacy issue seeing as these are commercial vehicles. I think it's obvious from comments on forums and in frustrations being voice by drivers in other outlets that falsifying logs is still widespread. It's not egregious, like running two log books, but small things, like picking up that next load before you shut down, getting that extra 15 miles to get to your planned parking spot. These are common sense things people do but you should be honest with yourself and understand that you're falsifying your logs. And, are we forgetting Congress told FMCSA to do this? I support the mandate and it will expose just how much of a failure current HOS are.

As an example I told a broker to hold on a sec while I count my hours since I'm on recaps. He said "Oh, you must be on Elogs?" I said yes and he said Well, it's only going to get worse, tell me when you can be there. Do you guys want to be treated like a mule or do you want to do it the right way? I don't get all the backlash. I think there's too much OOIDA Koolaid being passed around.
