They are now including the (recently raised) dollar amount in their advertising for the parcel positions, seasonal and street hire. "Road driver" is generally UPS Freight, "Tractor trailer driver" is generally small package.
It took me 3 peaks to get hired full time but times were slow for a while after 9-11. Seems like many people get hired full time at the larger locations fairly soon after working one peak. I second what others have said. If you have the financial ability to weather some lean times, it is worth it. You won’t beat the job eventually as far as ease of work, pay and benefits and most importantly employer stability.
I start next week as a full-time seasonal driver at $30 h/r. They said they need drivers badd and no one wants to drive big trucks. Everyone wants package car. Does the pay rate stay the same or drop once they hire you on permanent? I work for a FedEx ground contractor currently and making the switch.
Depends on the terminal. At my terminal, they just raised the starting pay to $30 for all drivers. At other terminals, it would drop down to the contractual starting rate. Welcome aboard, by the way. Congratulations.
I'm very excited but nervous at the same time. Im on a solo dedicated run making 1600-1700 a week but working for a contractor comes with risks. No benefits. I'm sure there be some pay loss for a bit. But I hope I can't get hired on by end of year (hr said should be do able)
Glad you got a raise! Makes going to work a little better. 33 years ago I had a great boss talk me in to getting in the 401k. Boy am I glad he did that. If you aren’t already in it now would be a great time. Get in 3 different aggressive mutual fund categories. Put half your raise now and every time you get a new raise. Before long you will be maxed out and when you retire your 401k can pay you more than your pension. I think you are in a great pension, I guess you are in Local 710. 710 always was better than most even when Central States wasn’t on deaths doorstep.
