Driver facing cameras and the DAC reports are going to be like 2 peas in a pod. Many a driver is going to be without careers because of this.
Safety department: "Mr. Smith. We were reviewing the footage of your in-cab camera from a couple of days ago and noticed that you were one hand steering and listening to the radio too loudly. You also looked at your phone to see who was calling."
Mr. Smith: "I thought you all said that you all couldn't turn those cameras on unless there was a critical event. You all are liars. Screw you! I quit!"
Safety department: "That's fine Mr. Smith. We will ding your DAC with a reckless driving charge with video evidence and ruin your career. Good luck and have fun!"
Freightliner better hurry up with that self driving truck. This industry is gonna need it.

Safety is going to nitpick every single thing you do. Didn't look at the mirrors enough, looked too long, looked to fast, looks like you weren't paying attention, you turned and didn't check the mirrors at the perfect time, we saw your eyes wander etc...... It will never end. Get an angry at life because I am unhappy person and they will absolutely ruin you. -
The major malfunction that most have with cameras is the fact that most of us took this job because we don't want to be micromanaged. We don't want to be looked at constantly. A lot of us get annoyed when we are told what route to take or where and how much to fuel. A lot of us don't need to have our hands held. Give me a load, and I will get it there as safe and as efficiently as possible. I tell people all of the time that the greatest thing about trucking is not the travelling, but the fact that my boss is hundreds if not thousands of miles away from me at any given time. A driver facing camera is the epitome of micromanagement. It is like doing your job with your boss staring at you just waiting for you to #### up so he can 'get' you. No thanks.npok, Mudguppy, tinytim and 1 other person Thank this. -
You also have some companies that are telling there drivers. Yes we do have the cameras but we are only installing them in trucks of drivers that the company has safety concerns about.... Also they will notify driver of those concerns and that the camera is being installed.. But they are not notifying any drivers of this posiibility prior to them signing up for orientation or cdl school sponsorship or recent cdl grads all of which are arriving at 40-60 people per week every week.. They do not tell them when they get through orientation and are assigned there trainer. If there trainer does not tell him he doesn't know until he gets back from training and is getting ready to go get his nice shiny truck and then Mr. Fleet Manager walks up and says oh btw it is gonna be a day or so before you can get out of here. As we have some concerns and are going to be installing a forward and driver facing camera with audio in your truck..
If you do not like that well doesn't matter your dismissed we already got paid our 7500.00 buy the government and we will also filed the report to your DAC/ Hire Right that you were dismissed/ fired for violating company policy or wtf ever we decided to report .... -

I suppose someone walking by could hear you as well. Or even someone in the truck next to you with their window down. -
Alittle update, got orientation tomorrow at a new company. So I should be employed again if all goes well.... I have no problem with road facing cams. I had a personal one in the truck. If someone f's up be it you or them the road cam will tell it. No one is going to say well I couldn't see what the driver was doing, so I don't know who was at fault. Everything can be determined by a road cam alone. I uploaded a video in the questions to the general public that supports my point.
