can a driver with a class b cdl legally drove a tractor with no trailer?

    Back a couple years, I only had a 7 tone and hmmwv license. Well, I was head dispatch and most of the motor pool was out one day. Me being the hard charger I was. I took an MRAP out that had to be moved to a lot across the base. Well I drove by the snco barracks and the maintanence chief happened to be heading to work at the time I rode by in a vehicle I wasn't licensed on. Later that day... I caught one hell of an ### chewing for doing it.

    I know it's nothing to do with the OP. But I have beer and this post made me remember that moment.

    I always thought that dolly deal that is hooked up via a pintle hook, was a trailer, but i asked a crane driver at a del i was making, he said its concidered part of the single unit
