If the fan clutch was engaging due to the regen overheating the engine it will cause the RPMs to quickly drop between gears . The truck will shift like you're taking way to long between gears and mis-matching RPM , gear and road speed .

Trick to this, to get it in gear without grinding, you slightly accelerate while shifting keeping the rpm up as you shift to next gear.

Regen system does all kinds of weird things to the engine. And each engine of every truck is different, some will shift at high rpm when you climb, and some will shift at a low rpm.

If the truck is done doing a regen but has not emptied all the smoke from the exhaust or burner, then you will have low boost pressure that will quickly drop, so shift at higher rpm.

And I guess you want to look for a place to rest while regenning.

I never had a regen, but imagine the losses in power is enough to go get lunch while the #### thing does it.

depending on the engine, anywhere from 45 mins to 2 hours... ive had some d13 volvo engines take 30 mins. providing that the system is working properly

As stated above the stationary regens take about 30 to 45 mins. When the truck regens going down the road you really wont even know its doing it except mayby the shifting as you stated and sometimes a "hot" exhaust smell.

one of the reasons it's harder to get the shift right is when it's doing a regen the system wants to keep the rpm's up.... they don't drop as fast

the Volvo we had we could always tell when it was doing a regen because the tone if the engine/exhaust would change. it just took a haft a tick longer (you'll get it).... it's a timing thing and it not the same for every truck
