I'm not a big fan of "what if" type questions. But, I will bite on this one. You are the capt of that ship. In the end, no one can force you to do what you don't want to do. I also was one that refused to do NYC. In fact, I made that clear many years ago. With this said, however, trucking, in general, has developed the cross-dock concept out of necessity because it's illegal to operate 53 footers there. If you are operating a 53 footer I would not be overly concerned. Just FYI, if you do refuse a dispatch in NYC be repaired to lose your job, or get parked somewhere for days being taught a lesson!
Can a trucking company force you to drive into NYC ?

I haven't been to NYC yet, but I've been pretty much everywhere else. I have only driven through Boston on I95 and gone through the tunnel.
In my opinion Chicago isn't that bad. Chances are you'll be making a delivery to one of their 8000 warehouses on the outskirts in Chicagoland.
I found myself stuck in central Baltimore once and that SUCKED. Jammed up an intersection for a few light cycles trying to wiggle through. Everyone was honking. lol Philly sucks too. NJ wasn't really as bad as I thought it would be. Most of that island is fairly reasonable.bryan21384 Thanks this. -
I live in MA and won’t touch anything south/east of 84/87/287 now, I’ve did it when I was a company driver though

It was one of those narrow roads lined with condos or apartments. Parallel parked cars made it worse. I had to make a left to head towards the interstate and the road I wanted to turn onto had a car parked illegally to the right so I got jammed in there.
I could have kept going straight, but was worried I'd end up stuck. Just wanted off that road. lolMACK E-6 Thanks this. -

That was many years ago, and I wasn't working at a "mega". YMMV.
However, you got a good second chance with a good company. You gotta do NYC. Find the drivers at the barn who go there regularly, and ask for some pointers.
I'll go to Montreal, Quebec, Philly, Baltimore, or Detroit before I'd go to NYC.sealevel Thanks this. -
I don’t wanna drive at night. Or in rain. Or wind. Or snow. Or if it’s under 60 degrees outside. Or if it’s over 85 degrees. I don’t want any vehicles in the lanes on either side of me ever. Oh and I won’t drive around sunrise or sunset cuz the sun hurts my eyes. I won’t sit in the seat for more than a little while because it’s not comfortable.

If you work for a comapny with forced dispatch? You dont have a choice. If you dont take their load, they have the right to terminate your employment
