Hello, I've had my authority for about 2.5 years now and was recently asked by friend of mine if i can contract owner operators from Canada. I searched google with no luck. Anyone know anything about that?

Shouldn't be an issue so long as you don't load him with any US to US loads...aka abide by cabotage law and you should be good to go

I agree with GoKid's answer. Google cabotage. I believe you'll find lack of US citizenship will prohibit the driver from legally hauling trailers from a US pickup to a US destination. Unless you can get the driver a work permit.

Yes, you can. I am a Canadian, living in Alberta and had my truck leased to a Montana-based carrier (owned by Canadians--I know, it gets confusing). In that circumstance we did a trip-lease each week. I don't know if that was the only way to make it work or not.

I don't see why you couldn't contract a Canadian carrier. Then it would probably fall on the carrier to comply with the cabotage rules.

    Zdravko Thanks this.
