Reviving an old thread here. I own both a CDN and US carrier and I'm curious if I can lease a truck from the CDN carrier to the US carrier without having to 'import' the truck to the US (like you would need to do if it was purchased)??
Can a US carrier contract Canadian O/O ?

Reviving an old thread here...I own both a CDN and US carrier, separate entities. Can my US carrier lease a truck from my CDN carrier without having to 'import' the truck like you would for a purchase? I'm just curious for registration purposes.

Yes. I have had trucks leased to US carriers on both permanent and trip leases.
Marmon110P Thanks this. -
Ok, but is it as simple as a lease agreement at the DMV, or do I need to have the truck 'imported' to the US for them to find the VIN in their system so they can give me a US plate?

In the permanent lease instances we have had the trucks registered in both Canada and the US (not the same truck at the same time, different instances). To be honest, I didn't handle the registration paperwork for those instances as we were supplying power units and I don't recall all the details. I had to go look at some pictures to see what plates were on the trucks. -
It seems that if I am going to have the truck plated with the US carrier, then I actually do need to have it imported as if it was a purchase.
