I always say it...more as a joke then anything. Since I quit carrying weed on me about 30 years ago...give or take a decade... I don't get nervous around them at all. I have alot of family and friends that are LEO and military. And even when I did have smoke on me I didn't get to nervous. We had a friend that was a cop that used to visit the gas station where I worked overnight. He always walked up to the door turned around and stood with his back to the door for about 30 seconds (giving us enough time to put everything away and spray brakleen) before he walked in. 90% of the cops I've dealt with in my life have been pretty cool the other 8% are probably having a bad night from dealing with idiots that mostly beat their wife and kids and are just plain trash and the other 2% are just bad people.

Well, I would not be concerned about it. I have had them do that to me in the past, from the passenger door on the side of a busy roadway. They do not want you to exit the truck, nor would I in traffic. I don't really see the issue. And I get along fine with police, and yes I have ran into a few pricks in my 52 years.
Lepton1 and MooneyBravo Thank this. -
or to have an even better day tell him you smell bacon and make snorting pig noises i'm sure he'' ll understand the humor / or not.
MooneyBravo Thanks this. -
No grab handle on Cascadia. Only had one jump up and then realize no where to grab. It's not a issue

I've never had it happen. Last time I got roadside inspected he asked to open door. Standing on ground you could pretty much see everything in my car hauler no need to climb.

I wouldn't have
If it ever happens just politely ask the officer to get off your step. Not referring to you but there's no reason being a jerk about it that just makes things worse then what they have to be.MooneyBravo Thanks this. -
Oh I've had officers hop up there to talk with me even though it's been quite a while. I guess the point I was trying to make is that I would resent an officer coming up there and start telling me that this has to be taken down and this has to be tied up. None of my stuff is ever fallen down or interfered with my safe driving abilities.Last edited: Oct 15, 2017

They can get up on the step, so it's best to keep anything you don't want seen out of plain view. I had an Alabama trooper sit in my passenger seat so he could look at my elog. He might as well have been reading Chinese because he had no idea what he was looking at and was petrified to touch it.
The only issue they can really mention is something obstructing your view on your windshield, anything else would just be ignored.MooneyBravo Thanks this. -
@Moosetek13 stole my thunder, but I'm also curious as to what the big deal is?
Yes, law enforcement officers are given a little more leeway than the average Joe, and more often than not, they're doing what they do for a reason. An officer may step up for more than one reason:
1. If you're pulled over on the side of the road, the LEO may step up on the driver's side to allow him a little more protection from being hit by a passing vehicle, or on the passenger side so you can see him and he can see you.
2. LEOs always have to assess any possible threats. (As a bit of side trivia, has anyone noticed in dashcam videos when an officer touches the trunk of a vehicle when they're pulled over? They're leaving a fingerprint as evidence if anything should go wrong...). So, he may step up to make sure a driver doesn't reach for anything untoward.
3. As mentioned, maybe it's just so he doesn't have to shout, and can hear a driver clearly.BigBob410, Lepton1, MooneyBravo and 1 other person Thank this.
