I was driving for PI & I for a couple of months. The truck broke down. It took a week or so. I found another gig in the mean time. Now they don't want to pay me. They are saying I damaged the truck. What can I do?

First question is did you? Have to ask, cause if they can prove it you will probably be liable for the damages. If it is not your fault contact the wage and earnings board in your state. Might not be called that in TX but what ever they are called they shouldn't be hard to find. Usually takes one call from them and the employer will get you the money, a hassle with them is something no employer wants. If it doesn't work your next recourse would be a lawyer which costs money and takes a lot of time. You really want to think about the effort involved and weigh it against how much they owe you. I have heard of drivers who have taken the company to small claims with mixed results, my friend did it and got a judgement just in time for them to file ch 7 bankruptcy. I guess if they are not scared of the state or a lawyer it might be an indication they know something you don't.

How much do they owe you? Were you in debt to them also for any school costs? Is any you claim they owe you reimbursement expenses (tolls, repairs, lumpers, etc)? If you're only out a weeks pay, I'd consider that a worthwhile cost for a lesson learned but if there's more to the story, then it is what it is.

They can't take damages from your pay unless you sign something allowing them to do so . They are obligated to pay your wages . The damage is a separate issue . They can bill you and sue if you don't pay .
Contact your state labor board . No attorney will want to bother with this .

What happened to the truck, this would be helpful in knowing if it could be considered your fault.

    Need details.
