One of the guys who drives for the limo company i dispatch for was a Lieutenant in Corrections and he was over 50 guards and 700 inmates and he quit because he couldn't go home feeling like he had a secure job, but then again I just know the guy but i will say he is tough as nails and I would not want to come up against him.
Can anyone convince me?

one of the worse jobs I ever had was as a CO
if that was all that was left for me
i would rather a sharp stick in the eye
seems to me the low end truck driving jobs pay more then what OP is making in NC corrections
I made twice that in NJ and hated everyday of itWild Murphy Thanks this. -

If you "love" your current job....stay the 'F' out of trucking....you will be disappointed every day.
I don't know why I even waste my time.....you will not listen any way. Nobody ever does.NC4 Thanks this. -
I would stay at your current job. It's stable with good benefits.
What shift do you work ?
Ever think about starting a business with a family member/friend ? That would increase your income. -
It's all about you, NCR. As white dog says, you'll do what you want. If you want bigger checks, go into OTR truck driving. But it's hard if you want to be home. To make any money you have to pretty much live in your truck for weeks at a time. Besides that, there's a lot of ways to spend money on the weeks driving. So you will gross more, but if you spend more, why bother? One thing is clear. Wide is the path, but narrow the gate. Many drivers come in, few stay in. It takes a while to get your skills and patterns together for success. Paying dues, the old cliche, is going to be part of it. You can surely do it, but you'll have to commit to it, you can't just stick your toe in and tell how deep the water is. Good luck.

Thank you everyone for there responses. In the last 24 hours I've come to a comfortable decision that I think will work for me. I'm going to finish getting my CDL while staying at the prison. Because I work 12 hour shifts and work never more then 16 days a month I feel as though I might be able to drive some local gigs for awhile, get my feet wet and if I find that I love it as much as being a CO, I'll take the leap of faith and go for it...
