I can move mine up and down so it reflects from straight down my door up to where I can see into the lane next to me.

Ok honestly if you need this mirror to back up I hope iI' never next to you, it serves no purpose in day to day trucking.maybe some designer thought it looked cool, maybe you can see down a loose fitting shirt as the girl hitchhiking gets into the truck but I'm sure you don't need it to do your job correctly.

It is usefull when you are barking in off a narrow street and there are cars parked along the road, or cars parked right were you need to swing the tractor through. It tells you how close you really are without having to guess or use you Spidey sence to figure out where they might be.

If you don't know what it's for then you have really havent had to back up yet.. :D

The first time you pull onto a narrow scale with high sides you will know what that mirror is used for. It is very handy when manuevering in tight quarters to see exactly how close your blind side is to objects.

It just gives you that 2-3 inches , worry free, so you can get it In the first time without a pull-up, that you wouldn't normally take without one.

    DSK333 Thanks this.

Every truck I've ever driven, it's been adjustable up/down. It swings on the very bolts that attach it to it's arms. It may not be adjustable on the plastic POS you drive but not on every 379, Classic and even some old Macks I've been in and/or owned including my current W900L.

You don't NEED it to back up. Just like you don't NEED fender mirrors. You don't NEED power steering nor air conditioning but you use it anyway; don't you? They can be of great benefit to many people. To say they "serve no purpose" just shows your own inexperience. Making fun of someone who's posting here in the INEXPERIENCED section of the forum is pretty low of you. Do you make fun of the handicapped as well? I mean after all, they don't NEED wheels; right? They can walk on their hands.
