Obviously I was relating something that someone told me after I warned them not to go running off taking a job with a company they knew nothing about and i see this happen all the time. Got an issue, get a tissue.
Can anyone tell me about Prime.

Does your car send a message to your insurance company when the collision avoidance is engaged?

Actually I never had this happen even though the blasted braking system went off on me a few times. If it did send a msg I was never questioned about it. The blasted think would go off on 2 overpasses in Nebraska every time I went under them though. It got to the point I would turn the cruise off when I was coming up on those.
I will say the braking system saved my butt a couple of times also, once I had a family in a black SUV came flying around me to get to an off ramp, they literally went into the dirt to get to the off Ramp. The system hit the brakes on the truck and slowed the truck enough to keep from hitting them. I honestly believe I would have killed them if not for that system. Also in CA I had a couple of brake check incidents that the truck locked the brakes on, saved my butt then to. Overall while I did not like the ghosts, it did save my butt more than once as I could not have reacted fast enough.Last edited: May 16, 2015
pete1 Thanks this. -
I think they already explained it enough. We always called it driver line up as if bringing in a load you always had to check in there and drop your papers off while your trailer was inspected. I hated the inspection as it simply took to long, sat there for over 45 minutes on more than one occasion waiting to get into the inspection bay. PITA, but it is very much needed as a lot of the trailers would need inspections and stuff replaced as they had not been through a thorough inspection in months. On the outbound you have to go in and pick up your BOL's while they would fuel the truck up and did a quick check on the trailer. Make sense now LOL?

Well that makes sense because when you're working for a D&H company, it can turn into an unending nightmare of OOS trailers and nobody knows how they got that way...

It depends on the division. 99% of all flatbed and tanker trucks (lease or company) are condos or midroofs, but there is a dedicated tanker account out of Decatur, IN that requires folks to lease a LW truck. Reefer? All I know is I was bored over a few days and decided to count every Prime reefer I saw. Stopped at 100 trucks. How many were LW? 11. I drive tanker (and lease a LW running dedicated out of Decatur), but my guess is the LW concerns for Prime wannabe drivers are vastly overstated.pete1 Thanks this.

no it does not send to my insurance company and it doesn't send it to Prime either. Only time prime gets a warning about braking is if you slow down more then 9mph in 1 sec, which is close to locking up your brakes.

So if you get cut off its your fault.....

More along the lines of if you have to brake hard enough to set off a critical event sensor your fleet manager will call you first to make sure that you (and the truck) have not been in an accident. Then y'all will discuss the circumstances that caused the critical event to analyze it and see if there are any areas in which you could take action to improve the safety of your driving.
I probably make that sound much more intrusive/ lecture-y than it really is. I can say that I have been brake checked by a couple of ######## here in Nashville area and have yet to set off the the brake sensor. If you set off the hard brake sensor you almost had an accident. Taking a second look at things might not be such a bad idea.
