I had this happen to me in Arizona .
The trooper asked for all my receipts I told him I didn't have any .
He then told me it had been his experience that when he looked he would find some.
I told him I wasn't going to give him permission to look but that I could not stop him from doing what he thought was right .
He handed me my stuff back and told me to have a nice day .
My point is this they can ask all they want but you still don't have to help hang yourself .
You can be polite and not have to roll over and let them do what they want .
They have rules to follow just like we do !
I try my best to make sure they follow them just like I have to follow mine .
Just like us they will stretch the rules if you let them LOL !!!

they can scan your ezpass and they can call the TA and ask them for the time of your purchase (its the receipt or transaction number)
even heard a few called shippers to verify times of pickup
i have never had any of this nonsense happen to me, but i have heard of this happening to others (from friends and strangers)
i dont know if it is true, but just asking in case others dont know
i had New Hampshire ask me for receipts, i told him i couldnt find them, he gave me a level one and i passed -
Fuel receipts are time stamped most of the time. And are time stamped on the fuel report your company gets.
-
fuel receipts AREN'T time stamped. only logged into the system. and maybe on the companies monthly transaction report.
i've only been asked ONE time for fuel receipts and that was oregon level 1. my trips get mailed in at the first mail box i find at the truckstop.
they can also ask for your meal receipts. i throw mine away. you can claim per diem or food. you can't claim both. and per diem is much higher then food. so why collect the trash.
had a driver get shut down becuase his burger king receipt didn't match.Sly Fox Thanks this. -
they can ask for anything, whether or not you hand it over is another thing.
I don't have any receipts on me for food, and I don't have to turn in receipts for ifta, I only need them for my taxes. I can print a fuel report at home once a week once a month or once a year.
just like whenever I have been asked for logs, they get the previous 7 days and the current log, they don't get the entire book.
but with the way my equipment looks, the way the paper work looks ( the permit book is in alphabetical order and in a binder with registration on truck and trl, ins. card and lease on the first 2 pages, the logs are laptop logs printed(very neat). just gives a neat, organized appearance.
I too have heard these stories of drivers getting raked over the coals, the common theme always seems to be that it was done for no reason whatsoever.
the only people I have ever met who have told the story and said it happened to them lost all credibility when they finished by saying they called the federal marshalls and got the scalehouse shutdown.
I think bigfoot and scalehouse horror stories have a lot in common.
and my fuel receipts aren't ever time stamped. -
This is America! You have no rights. You will do what Barney tells you to do or prepare to face the consequences . The more you know your so called rights and the more you educate the police on hem the harder you are going to get screwed. Just dumb up and say yes sir and no sir, cooperate and usually they won't screw with you too bad. Nobody likes being to.d their job or how to do it. I remember back in the days of working in bike shops I would tell people we charge a higher labor rate if you already fixed it yourself.

like you I have never had anyone ask for receipts.. however I have worked for 2 companies who requested all fuel receipts be time stamped. That is when I found out that companies have the ability to put it on the receipt or not.
-
LOL scan the EZ pass .something new everyday on here ..

I think I agree with Snowwy on this one Fuel receipts AREN'T time stamped, what is time stamped is your credit card receipt, and I dont have to show him my credit card receipt. With the exception of the small fuel stop I think all the big ones give you tickets that dont have any time stamps on them.

The driver's only obligation is to provided 7 days of logs, CDL, Medical card, BOL, and the garbage in the permit book.
As far as supporting documents the only regulation is 398.5 k, an employer must hold them for 6 months and produce them in an audit.
If a driver is asked you can say anything like I fueled at the terminal, we aren't allowed to run toll roads, I just sent in my trip-pak with all receipts, to show me the regulation, etc. If you have nothing to worry about just play his game to reduce suspicion. I'm not sure how it would play out in a road side inspection but in an audit they usually allow an 1 hour variance.
