I've already heard of big companies like Prime and Schneider screwing lease drivers by selling loads to themselves to manipulate rates.
Example Schenider logistics gets a load for $2000 and sells its to Schneider National for $1000 and lease drivers gets % of $1000 and not the full rate original rate but rather the manipulated scam rate. They get away with this by creating different companies that basically work together.
I've now heard something else going on, seemingly even more shady.
A lot of the carriers offer say 75-80 and even 90% of the gross for O/Os leased on, they say they will send you the rate con of booked loads so u see the rate yourself.
However the ratecon can easily be changed by using a photoshop program.
For example they edit the gross to whatever they want and then send the O/O a scammed rate con.
Sounds crazy but I've heard this going on multiple times (when driver call broker afterwards and asks for copy of rate con directly)
Is this really going on?
Can carriers truly get away with screwing drivers this badly.
Seems illegal to me that you can put in writing the O/O will get a certain percentage of the gross amount when that gross amount has been tampered with one way or another.
Can carriers get away with Photoshopping a RATE CON (to show lower rate) sent to O/Os leased on?

Well yes that happens, but here is the problem, when you keep focusing on what they get and not what you get, you get less in the long run.
The regulation is this - they, your lease carrier has to show you what they billed the consignee.
That's it.
IF the consignee is owned by the carrier, then that doesn't get into the mix.
As unfair as this is, and I think it is very unfair, this is how it works because the industry has a fractured and scattered group who own trucks and drive them. We will never see any real changes like full disclosure of the load information or elimination of scraping loads off of load boards.Dale thompson Thanks this. -
When you call the broker to get p/u info and they say they can not give out the load pay info. its time to say with/out the pay info you can't p/up load , then it will make them give you load pay, but it can get you let go from lease or driving job so be/carefull how much pressure you put on broker to give you the pay info?

Usually they don't sent RC to OOP if they want to cut your rates.
But, if you want to be 100% sure - they need add you to email with RC to broker.

Why would anyone work someplace that they think this is happening?

People need to get all these middlemen out of their lives. Dispatching services, factoring companies, fleece purchases, etc. etc.
Find load, negotiate rate with customer or broker, receive rate you can live with and do the job. Why muck it up any more than that?just_sayin and Ffx95 Thank this. -
Advantage of only running a couple of lanes with customer freight is that everyone knows what a load pays, just changes with the fsc.

Rate is always discussed, Why would you take a load not knowing what the rate is If you are on a $ per mile rate, all miles.
