I had a run in with a new company that had hired me but the recruiter had not divulged how old I was and that I was female to the safety boss. He said on the second day that I would not be able to do the job for them since they had crappy equipment. He wouldn't budge and I got in my pick up and went home. I called my mechanic to get my truck ready as I had had it working for jerks. I now haul local mostly freight and stay out all week but home on the weekends. My customers now wait until I can come and move their freight since I treat it as I would my own freight. I have two friends working with me now and we have more than enough freight to haul. I am looking at 63 in my rear view mirror. One friend is 65 and the other is 63. Hmm, Old Souls Trucking. Hmm, has a ring to it.

    Lonesome and REO6205 Thank this.

We’ve got a 70 year old guy that runs circles around the young entitled brats that talk more than they work.
I’d rather have 10 of him than 1000 of the young ones.

I'm 47 and medically unfit to drive right now. I barely drove a car in the last year. A good driver knows when they are not safe behind the wheel. I kinda figured I'd die on the job before I'd quit but I'm not willing to risk others safety to do it. Work as long as you want but be honest about it.
