I’m 65, there are about 6 other drivers that are older and in their 70’s at the terminal I run out of.
The younger drivers(20’s and 30’s) are amazed and even ask how we do it.
Do what?
You know, drive with no GPS, no headset, you go no matter the weather and always seem to be on time and don’t complain!!??
I just say, you should have seen this job thirty years ago!![]()
Can drivers be forced to quit for being too old?

Had a friend was an O/O. At 84 they wouldn’t renew his annual Lease Agreement. They noted insurance policy age limit.

40 and their kids and grandkids should be barred from serveing in any legal or political role so we dont get intergenerational moron trees like we do today.expedite_it, Gearjammin' Penguin and jcatel Thank this.

Heh even a broken on fire melted clock is right twice a day. In this one single instance i agree with them. Without waxing too political see starship troopers the book. That system makes a lot more sense then todays mess.Gearjammin' Penguin Thanks this.

BINGO! What some may not want to know, it's a fact, older people will be a drain on their health insurance, and I know a guy, a GM truck mechanic for like 40 years, the dealer MADE him retire at 65, claiming their insurance was too high for him, and far more likely to have a claim. Think all's well with Medicare? GD ripoff, and I was shocked to learn, as retirees, we have to pay a $171/mo. premium and that just gets you in the door. Also, younger drivers might work for less money too.
I suppose my biggest problem is, I've always thought of trucking as a job, not a way of life, and there is so much more to retirement than looking through a windshield, or stuck at a shipper on Xmas eve while the rest of the family celebrates without you. I "put in my time" and health issues aside, never thought of trucking after I retired. Good riddance, I figured.Rideandrepair and jcatel Thank this. -
We have a driver 89 year old I think. Drives about 2000 miles a week. His wife died about 15 years ago and he said he decided to keep driving because he was bored sitting home alone. Guy keeps himself in pretty good shape for his age. He said the truck will be his casket. He’ll retire when he’s dead or until they tell him he can’t drive anymore. Got a clean record as well. I guess as long as you keep passing that physical, you can keep driving. Why not?
