I'm srry but that is wrong. U can run both paper/paperless. But if u are DOT, they have to match. Me personally would have a problem with having to run both. Why would u? For me it's 1 or the other. But is required by law to have paper logs on u at all times, in case E-logs go down. U have to account where u are, wut u were doin at all times.

Starting to think that these oilfield jobs aren't as sweet as the advertising is letting on! Probably more, but this is the second thread about ND oil patch work regarding logs and the drivers complaining about the way the company policies work. The other thread was a driver that wanted to go to OFF DUTY on his log to save hours available even though he was getting paid for the full time...the company policy said ON DUTY all times for the entire shift. This thread is bothered by having to keep a paper log with the electronic working.
If it isn't breaking a rule/reg or any law....what difference besides a little bit of inconvenience for the driver. We have always had a certain amount of paperwork that was required, it is less now than before...no biggie in my book! -
Theres been a few times with an elog company I had to switch to paper because my QUALCOMM quit completely and had to be replaced was one of the reasons.Computer qlitch another reason.

It's kind of strange because it's usually one or the other. That is just overkill. Many local companies run paperlogs because the drivers do go outside the circle or at least some of them. While inside the circle you can use just two lines... off duty and on duty not driving. You don't have to log driving. It is nothing but a time card. When you go outside the circle then you have to log correctly.
They are just wasting money on PeopleNet. The safety person does sound like they don't know what they are doing. But the bottom line is you have to do what your employer says to do if it doesn't break the regulations. They are not breaking regulations making you double log. You can tell them to get bent but you might find yourself bent over in the unemployment line. You either like it or quit.25(2)+2 and otherhalftw Thank this. -
If you don't like you job or the rules that they impose on you, then quit, I bet there are at least 5 people willing to take your place, 100 mile radius, home every night/day, (I'm just guessing paid by the hr.) don't sound to bad to me, paper logs, or people net or both who cares?

Company kiss ***? Think I could produce a dozen or so dispatchers that would laugh at what you say. Your missing the point. Why do you think other drivers are saying your attitude will get you in trouble?
If your think completing paper logs is worth complaining about you haven't been through half the heartache or danger a career in trucking causes. I been asked to do things that are unsafe, illegal, unethical over the past 20 years and the answer is always the same NO. After 2 or 3 times they will stop asking.
But refuse to fill out a paper log? You show your inexperience and immaturity with that kind of attitude, and yes unless you change it, you will not last. How do I and the other drivers trying to advise you here know that. Because we have seen people with that attitude let go time and time again.
Just two days ago a driver in my company was fired for refusing to drive a straight truck. He was hired to drive big trucks, it was beneath him to drive a straight truck for one day, even though he would have been paid the same. Now he doesn't drive any truck, and it's likely that refusing dispatch or load abondonment will be put on his DAC report, which means if he gets any job driving a truck, it will not be a good one.
Welcome to Reality.
But maybe your right, tell your company to screw off "You don't need to do no stinking logs". Unemployment pays a few hundred bucks a week for a while and you will get to stay home and play video games. Someday, maybe you will learn before it's too late.

Not sure if this applies, but I run both... I have to log into RandMcnally to shut it up, but never certify the logs. I run paper so I can bend the rules. DOT asked my about my Elogs and told him no, I won't certify anything it says...here is my coloring book to look at.
Any anal retentive safety comments can save their breath, I ain't hearing it. -
well considering he determins if you have a job or not but the legal answer is that no if that day you do not go over that 100 mile radius but the thing is lets say the third day into your work week and you go over that 100 mile mark than you have to retain the last 7 days of your work history and I think that is why he may be requiring you guys to run a constant log
