yup. A few years ago I had a very long run and would save it for Friday. We have a bunch of drivers here that refuse to use it and call to get picked up during the week. A couple weeks of them doing that they were cut out much earlier. Imagine that.
You made the right move man. I've watched a lot of my good friends here leave recently with 10 to 15 years in and they are a lot happier. They all say it felt good to walk out of that door for the last time. I'm staying because my terminal has some very nice runs and I'm able to bid and hold them which keeps me away from most of the bs. It takes a lot to get to me which probably helps too, but if they did away with meet/turns and I had to run a hub I'm not sure I would last a year.
It's a shame that the golden palace is destroying this place from the inside out.
Can I be forced to use 16 hour rule?

I worked for a container hauling company that used the 16hr rule like it was going out of style, and they had e-logs needless to say I quit after 4 mo

You too man. My barn has lost a lot of 5 year plus drivers to OD and some private fleets. My thoughts are pretty much what you said - I'll sink with the ship if I'm gonna drive but have been looking at ways to get out of it altogether.
Wish you the best man.. -
Then you return to the same terminal daily. But you have to follow the rules. I am sure they have a little green and white with the title of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations. I am sure Conway gave you one when you were hired like most companies do. Like others have said "you cannot be forced to do anything unless you allow them to" Call your safety manager if needed, the industry is getting harder to make a living at it, you probably can't afford a hefty ticket. Lets put these carriers in check with the law.

been reading thru this post and seem like its the same old confusion. I've always gone off the notion that it was to get u back to ur reporting location in the event of a road hazard, accident etc. following the guidelines as previously stated. I believe its bs that a company can make u use it outside of its intended idea. Luckily, the company I work for doesn't recognize the 16 hour exemption...period. U shut it down when your 14 hits...and I work for a decent size Midwest ltl carrier (dfl).

It's obvious who I work for and I have checked with our logging department, I use my 16 once a week, every week, OT after 8 everyday??? It's a no brainer for me, I'll take all their money. BUT>>>>I do agree that no one should be forced to do anything, and at Con-way (XPO) the level of lazy is only trumped by the level of complaining about the work load. Over .60 a mile and 25 + an hour and still they whine....(smh)

I didn't see in the regulations that a dispatcher can force you to keep on driving, I'd tell them to keep on dreaming.

Need some help here, So if a driver who drives 170 miles one way to a destination and returns to the same starting point he/she can use the 16 hour rule.
Now if the driver goes 50 miles into his run gets into an accident gets towed to a shop 1 mile from scene and sits there for 6 hours. Can the company still force the 16 hour rule?
Driver started his night at 8:30 pm, starts driving at 9:30 pm accident at 11:30 pm replacement truck arrived at 5:30 am, he only drove 50 miles still have 120 miles to go and the 170 miles to return to terminal.Matt1924 Thanks this.
