Do me a favor. Pick up your log book & tell me what line is on duty not driving... I bet you that it is line 4. That is what it is on my log book. Now go back & read what I said....

With written authoization from the carrier you can log line 1 while taking care of personal business. Breaks, a walk, lunch, shower, whatever. It must be in writing, specific and with you or in the truck

    So much misconception....

A letter from your company does not give you the right to break a federal law. If you are out of the truck, it is line 1 off duty regardless if you have a little stupid letter or not....

If you are in the drivers seat & not driving, then it is line 4 on duty not driving....
A letter from Joe Blow Trucking will not relieve you, me, or anyone else from receiving a ticket from Mr. DOT officer.

Like I said, most don't log it like that & I don't either. I'm sitting on line 1 right now typing this message & downloading a movie. And guess where I'm sitting?

I bobtail while not under load using line1 off duty. (or as it is now on electronic logs off duty driving) Yes it has it's own line.
And as long as I'm not under load I can do this.

I hope I'm in drivers seat while doing this.

    Right........

But.......many a DOT have an interpretation that say you do a 10 hr break in your rig......one cannot "possibly" spend all 10 hours in the sleeper......

    Technicalities....

Now to save yourselves some grief when parked for the night.....
If DOT, County Mountie or some City Kittie come by in the middle of the night knocking on the left door...tell them to come around to right side.....

If your a z z is planted in the driver's seat when you open the window...it does not matter if your logged in the sleeper....as far as DOT is concerned....You are ON Duty.....

pffft They do not know Nana. I could easily do 48 hours in this sleeper now. Phone, pc, movies, books, food, diet coke, potty facilities, BED all that I need. Oh and yes.....I do happen to have a chocolate stash here in the sleeper too.

Also.....I was told by safety who supposedly quoted a DOT agent(cop, officer, what they heck are they?) That if you close your front curtains the whole cab is then considered your sleeper. What's your opinion WCP?
