Let me take a shot again, I told you I was very tired when I typed the last post
Line 2 means your body is in the sleeper. This to DOT means you was getting rest. Does it mean you are sleeping, NO! I would not say officer I really was not sleeping during that time, cause they might write you up for being fatigue. But line 2 means your body is in the sleeper. YOu can be in the sleeper anytime during the day for as little time as you would like. Some drivers think they can only go in the sleeper for a minimum of 2 hours. This is not true. All time will be counting against your 14 however.
Maybe this will also clairfy other questions as well or help confuse someone -

I was typing that and got interrupted at the end. That's why the "however " is there but nothing to go with it except the smiley Silly me -
Ok heres one yes i'm a noob
if i'm @ shippers -n- unload truck can i put that online 1 or should i leave it on line 4 if it's on 4 it cuts into my drive right.?? -
If you are @ a shipper/consignee we know it is going to take some time to deal with it. You need to log line 4 time when you are dealing with it. Dealing with it means opening the doors, going inside or whatever. Now the loader says it will be 1 hour to load you, ask them do you mind if I go into the sleeper and lay down and they say yes, go to the sleeper (most won't mind, some do I know). This way you are saving on your 70 hour. It will still be counting against your 14 hour, but you may be able to set yourself up for a split break if there 2 hours or more (remember though only an 8 hour break extends the 14 or as some say it, stops the clock).
Now if you have to assist in the loading in any way it must be on line 4 the whole time.
Logging off duty @ a shipper/consignee is really frowned upon. Was relieved of all responsibility from that load? I doubt any customer would do that and or your dispatcher. Now if there is a restraunt next door or inside and no one has a problem with you taking your meal break then log it off duty and be ready to explain if DOT ask. You must have permission from your company stating you can be relieved of all responsibilty from all equipment to log off duty while under a load. Most companies put this on the back of one of your road test/medical cards or possibly log book. Many drivers are not aware about the meal card/shower personal use while under a load.
If this doesn't answer your ? please let me know.
I did have a driver written up for not logging line 4 time for loading/unloading and going off duty at the customer as well. I don't see it often but that officer was on the ball as I preach this very same thing in my classes -
k thnxs cause reseason i ask is cause i ask that the company i'll be working for -n- they said if you want to log it on line 1 thats fine but like you said better safe then sorry thnxs for the input

Now, here's another question to really mix things up. What if, my wife and I are running as a team......she goes in the sleeper for her 8......comes out and sits over in the passenger seat looking real neat.......doing her toenails for all those friendly truckers that keep honking their horn at us as we slowly (carefully watching our fuel consumption) pass them......can she log that off duty as she is not responsible for anything except those pretty little toes???
-
She is responsible for that load @ all times untill either the load is delivered or the company relieves you from duty!
Now what do most teams do? I will let someone who is willing to cough that one up. Just don't get busted by the "bears"
