My truck is "fixed".....I'll find out in the next day or so. They said corrosion on the battery cable was the major problem.
Can I be put OOS, fined, have points accessed for this?

The gauges you reference, speedometer, odometer, fuel pressure, oil pressure, tach are not out of service. The speedometer must work and can be a write up specifically, but not out of service. I guess the other gauges could be wrote up as parts and accessories(396.3a) but they are not out of service. The low air warning device, however, is out of service if neither the light or audible signal is not present. However, a visual device other than presssure gauge is required to work under the 121 Brake Standard. No visual device is a write up, but as long as the audible device is present it is not out of service.
Just FYI>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Lilbit and Flying Finn Thank this. -
Yeah, when I first started driving, I had an old Freightshaker and the speedometer quit working halfway into my trip. I tried to use the tach to gauge my speed as this was the trucks last trip. I got pulled over for speeding in VA. As I pleaded my case and I showed the officer the needle pegged out on the broke speedo, he handed me two tickets. One for malfunctioning equipment. I should of kept my mouth shut.
The company paid the tickets though.

I had a speedo go weird in a company truck once. It just started staying at 80 Kph all the time. I sent a QC message to the company. Told them what TS I was at and that I was putting the truck OOS because of the speedo. I wasn't about to mess with a needed gauge not functioning.

the only gauge that works on my 1992 volvo is the air pressure
the tach needle doesnt move
the speedometer moves but isnt nearly accurate......always sticks at 50 until i get to a dead stop then it jumps down to around 25.....any other time its about 15mph off
voltmeter is at 8, lights been on for about a year....the gauge is obviously the problem
temp gauge completely maxed out, way off the scale for over a year
fuel gauge completely maxed out, way off the scale for over a year
half our tractors are this way, so i hope you cant be OOS for this or half our operation will be shut down -
There is a device in most trucks as well as cars called a "GEM" it is what makes your gages, lights. and most other electric devices work. It distributes the information after the main computer. I have replaced many of these it is not a common break down part but I believe once it starts acting up it will fail. I would insist on a fix!

well they tell you to have a paper log for backup in case the E-log goes down so CYA keep a lob book in the truck as a stand by

Yeah My truck was "fixed " 3 time @F/L dealer for same problem turned out it was the engine wire harness shorting out to it's self, the only good thing was that when the speedo quits so did the governor
WHOO WHOO!! I passed a lot of trucks I normally can't pass
