35 w/ 2 young kids. No education so I'm stuck week to week. Felonies on my record 15 yrs or more (theft), ALL sentences completed 10 yrs ago (Mar2003).
Seriously considering the roads. I mean if everything I hear is true, I can make the money I want to make w/out having to look 20-25 yrs down the line. So many opportunities with a CDL A.
I hardly sleep, I don't do drugs, I like isolation and my dogs' company. So why not. I've heard certain companies straight up will not hire felons. But yet when I talk with Roadmaster, they tell me as long as I have 10 yrs clean, then I'm good. So am I to assume that all or most of the companies Roadmaster deals w/ will hire me?
I need some help here because I am gung-ho about this, ready to sign up today. But I want to know if this is a pipe dream before I take this lunge.
Can I do this?

The outfit I drive for hires ex-convicts. (Small mom and pop operation) 99% of these are guys are hard working and are thankful for the opportunity to start a new life. Maybe you should apply at a smaller outfit that doesn't have rules written in stone like the big dawgs do. Good luck!
Chinatown Thanks this. -
fing what companies that roadmaster deals with and put in an application and see if you can get a prehire before paying for that school. good luck and keep on plugging away

i understand you desire and need to make a living...but with 2 young kids....are you sure you wanna go this route?? not that there arent great dads that drive...but the truth of the matter is, they just arent home much, most of them anyway...
i know if i had it to do over, i would have raised my kids first....have lots of regrets over that...
just something to think about.... -
I fight with that daily, but the bottom line is I have nothing to offer and if trucking can make it happen for my family then that's my route. Hopefully I could be local in a couple years and it would be easier.

how does mama feel about ya being gone?? she willing to handle being mom and dad, and taking care of basically everything while you are gone....???
not trying to knock truckin..or discourage you....
have you thought about if will be enough money for your family?? you will have road expenses..which are NOT cheap -
Do you love truck's? if you are only doing it for the money, you might not be able to stand it. I love it because I knew I was meant to drive trucks since as long as I can remember, and I even got fed up with the long haul BS, and only work local now.

Yeah she's cool as long as I can bring home the money. These places that Roadmaster deal with say you'll start at 40k and be up to 52k by 1st year... How truthful is that? Is 800-1000 a week about right, straight out of school?

I like trucks and I'm doing it for the money. I don't want to be on the road my whole life but I'm sure I can do it for a couple years. After, if I can get into a local or dedicated run, then I think I'd be good.
