I bought a new truck everything is ready to go but the KeepTruckin ELD is behind on the orders it will get here next week. They gave me a certificate of order. That I can show the cops and show That I’m waiting for the device. So my question is will I get in trouble if I use my KeepTruckin in paper log mode(no connected to the truck) .
Has anyone beed in this situation truck been setting for two week driver getting mad. It’s an OTR operation.

If your ELD isn’t working you’re allowed to run paper so wouldn’t that be the same situation? I mean I’m no lawyer and what makes sense to me doesn’t necessarily make it a good idea...but if I was in your situation I’d full send it! Not sure if it applies when it comes to DOT but in most situations it’s easier to ask for forgiveness than permission...of course we’re talking about the government here so good sense doesn’t always make good policy.

Go to the nearest truck stop and buy a paper log book. Use your Keep Truckin in paper mode until someone tells you otherwise.

I “ think “ you can only use paper for 8 days in any 30 day window

    BigBob410 and ibcalm19 Thank this.

You have hit the daily double. 8 days in a 30 day window is correct.

    GYPSY65 Thanks this.

I read where if it is going to be more you need to get with the feds as soon as you know it will be more than 8 days for approval. Of course all that is for a eld that stops working. Don't think this is the same deal as this truck has never had one installed.

My understanding is that to use the 8 day paper log exception, you must have all the components installed on the truck, but @ZVar may have other insights

    ZVar Thanks this.
