You don't need 3-4 weeks off. You want 3-4 weeks off. I'm sure many would like that. But reality says we work and pay monthly bills. You put 10 years in, they'll give you 3 weeks vacation. Then at that, they'll want you to take one week at a time. The company loses money when the truck sits.
Your options are to become an owner operator or become a school teacher. Or like another poster said quit every year and try to get your job back or get another.
Better yet, go local and go hiking on weekends.celticwolf Thanks this. -
Ask about a Leave of absence policy. My company will allow ten days as long as you surrender your keys truck and company supplied documents.

You just turn your truck in, why does the company care as long as their truck is rolling

Go work for a company that has "part time slip seating". Where you drive two and off one. You will get your time off, one week at a time. The truck will continue to roll for the company, and you will still have a job to come back to each week.

Do you wanna be a truck driver or a hiker? Do you need 3-4 weeks off?
What matters more? Making money, or going hiking?
