Not everyone is that fortunate, and what job path they have chosen is what they will be stuck doing. People have to do things that they can't stand all the time. Suck it up deal with the right way and it will work out in your favor or sit around complain about it looking at so and so and wondering why your not them. Everybody's luck is not the same some have to work harder and suffer more to gain anything....

I have to agree with the last two post... Let's not judge ones passions...

I am new to trucking myself and a second career guy too... Although I am not of the wealthy category, I am loving the job so far.

Is it "easy"? No not all the time but I will say it's the easiest job I have had. The hours are long yes, but if you like to drive and like seeing this beautiful country of ours the hours fly by.

Do other career choices make more money, yes but I view it as they pay me an obscene amount of money to clamp onto a kingpin, bump a dock, and do some paperwork... The rest is just a relaxing drive across the country, for me.

Now I don't mean to generalize the whole of the trucking industry, as I know I ended up with a good company with good frieght and good lanes... But let's not generalize too far the other way either.

Trucking is a unique beast and a great lifestyle if you like the lifestyle. If not, it could make for a very bad experience.

    Stay Safe,
    MD

As I posted before I am not doing this for money. I did not know that I would like truck driving so much. Now maybe when I actually start doing it that I found out I'm not cut out for it but I would like to give it a chance since I did it enjoy it so much.

I mean that sounds like a nice driver perk no question but I get the feeling that there isn't that much time to watch TV. Is TransAm considered a decent starting company? It seems there are tiers of starter companies from the little research I have done.

Is it team training or is the trainer on the clock when you are?

In the beginning stages you basically run as a Super Solo... Meaning that both drivers are up and awake for 14 hours (full shift) and split the driving mix between the two until the trainee gains the skills required to run a complete shift as a true solo driver... Build up tolerances for driving 11 straight, day time driving, night time driving, different areas of the country, mountains, etc... Towards the end you are then kind of running team but it's very nice to have an experienced driver handy to wake up when something new hits for the first time... Safety Net if/when needed.

We don't do the three weeks and toss you in a seat company. I would say one would get much more one on one time with an awake driver than most other companies... Especially the Megas.... Don't get trained at a mega.

By the time you complete the training here you are fully prepared to Fly Solo.

And we have awesome equipment too.

Drop me a PM if you would like to discuss it in a bit more detail.

And I am not a recruiter... Only been here as a driver since August 2015 and I am very pleased with my choice of companies.

But not every company works for every driver... So please, look beyond the "Mega Carriers" before you make your choice.

The company sounds nice but I already know I can't sleep in a moving truck. So if any part of the training is team-driving it won't work for me unfortunately.

Some of my best sleep ever was in a moving truck. Flashback to being in the womb for me I guess.
